Title: Priest rapids walleye
Post by: bingman on May 23, 2013, 11:50:59 AM
I'm not looking for any honey holes, I'm just wondering how the walleye fishing is around priest rapids dam, above and below. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've never targeted them in that stretch but I know they are there. I saw a a big one (10+lbs) filleted out along with all of the salmon carcasses at one of the Vernita boat ramps a few years back. They are fished in the tailrace behind Wanapum Dam as well, I would think they would be below Preist Rapids. Swift and treachorus waters there look out and be safe!

lots around the bottom of wanapum ,between priest rapids and wanapum, rubber black worms seem to be the ticket. Have only caught a few on accident,  but alot of people catch them when salmon fishing is goin on. any tips on catchin them.

The trick is keeping the squaw fish off, long enough, to catch a walleye...........

Fished the area between Priest and Wanapum Saturday with no luck. Headed to potholes Sunday and caught three around 2 lbs, it was enough to keep things interesting. I talked to a guy that fishes for pikeminnow off of the dam and he said that the walleye bite should get better in a month or so. I think a lot of the fish are still spawning and lethargic due to the cold water. I'll try it again in July.

Walleye spawn has been over for a month or so in the Mid-C. Fishing between Tri-Cities and Wanapum Dam have been decent.
