I'm looking for a good place to start hunting. Preferable within an hour or two of seattle.
Any ideas?
Remember, total newbie here.

You could go where everbody else goes- Moses Lake. But that would be about 2 1/2 hours. I'm not sure of any place closer. The Yakama Nation is good for quail, and pheasants too, depending on if it's a good year for them or not. That would be another place to try. But again, it's probably more than a 2 hour drive. You could hunt grouse not far from Seattle, maybe up towards Snoqualmie Pass. Really just depends on what kind of birds you're most interested in.

Ellensburg area?

What's the snoqualmie-area? Grouse would be fine. Forest Grouse?

What do you want to hunt for and how hard are you willing to work? Do you have a dog?
1-2 hrs from seattle limits you. Keep reading and listening and you will find some places.

Release sites :dunno:. Far from ideal but that certainly has been the starting place for a lot of upland folks, myself included several years ago. Give out a little more info and better help will probably find its way to you :twocents:.

If you combine a word that bobcat misspelled and bearpaw's response you will be on track. good luck!

Yes, indeed, Bobcat spelled Yakama right! When referring to the tribe and their land, it is Yakama.

Total Newb.... Google Cooke Canyon Hunt Club out of Ellensberg. Yeah, yeah, yeah, pen raised birds, but you will get some shooting and have a good time.

I think the release sites are a good idea for a new hunter. Not because it's a high quality hunting experience, but because it will get you in front of birds, put some in the freezer, and keep you enthused while you figure things out. And, you can talk to other hunters there, who may or may not be willing to share a spot or two east of Seattle.

I stand corrected, sorry Bobcat. The clue given is not on the res.

What about hunting Stillwater or Cherry Valley?
