Title: Need a good beginner place
Post by: dmv9 on May 27, 2013, 12:44:58 PM: I'm looking for a good place to start hunting. Preferable within an hour or two of seattle.

Any ideas?

Remember, total newbie here.

Post by: bobcat on May 27, 2013, 12:49:58 PM: You could go where everbody else goes- Moses Lake. But that would be about 2 1/2 hours. I'm not sure of any place closer. The Yakama Nation is good for quail, and pheasants too, depending on if it's a good year for them or not. That would be another place to try. But again, it's probably more than a 2 hour drive. You could hunt grouse not far from Seattle, maybe up towards Snoqualmie Pass. Really just depends on what kind of birds you're most interested in.

1-2 hrs from seattle limits you. Keep reading and listening and you will find some places.

Not because it's a high quality hunting experience, but because it will get you in front of birds, put some in the freezer, and keep you enthused while you figure things out. And, you can talk to other hunters there, who may or may not be willing to share a spot or two east of Seattle.
