Title: New To hunting
Post by: huntingdog16 on May 28, 2013, 08:57:38 PM
I am new to hunting. I was wondering if anyone could give any advice on Bear hunting in Washington. I live in skagit county. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on 1.) Gear (preferably compound bows) 2.) Location(if anyone is willing to give up a good hunting site to a newby) And 3.) Anything else that might be important. I have been told by a few buddies that there is really good  hunting on Mount Baker, WA. I was wondering if anyone could let me know if this information is good and also if anyone could give a new guy to hunting like me anymore good advice. Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you  :)

the problem with hunting baker is that your going to find some tree huggers. not saying it's not good spot. you will just have to get pass them and you should be ok. you might want to look in to finney creek. there some locked gates. walk pass them and can run into some bears. about the bow might be a little hard on this side of the hill. a gun will better odds. good luck. try riverside archery for gear. gary is great and they have good prices

good number of bears close by to you.  last year was my first year doing it and spotted 4 in the first 4 mornings.  Focus on clear cuts behind locked gates down low early in the season, try to locate cuts that have 2 or more food sources a mile or more in, and water nearby.  Sept, early Oct is good up higher.
