Title: keeping your catch cool?
Post by: viva_che1363 on June 09, 2013, 08:43:31 AM
just curious what you all use to keep your catch cool on your way home from river fishing?
currently i only fish off the bank in rivers and i usually gut and clean my fish and put them on a stringer, then for the drive home i put them in one of those hot/cold insluated bags from the grocery store and pick up some ice to toss in there with them.

I always have an ice chest in the car or truck with a couple of frozen jugs in it.

I slice the gills and after they have bleed out (5-10 min.) I immediately put them in an ice chest and surround them with crushed ice. Cools them down faster than blocks.

 :yeah:

i usually gut and clean my fish and put them on a stringer,

Dead fish on a stringer is never a good idea. Accelerates bacterial growth. Better to somehow keep cool and out of the water (ice as soon as possible).
