Is there any interest in a "2nd annual hunt-wa" elk calling contest?
-
I'll try this year if we do one. Why not.
-
Yes!!!
-
Yes! I would like to see/hear my improvements from last year!!
-
Jphelps you got any seminars coming up before the dead line :dunno: I could use some coaching. :chuckle:
-
Bildo has got to join this year. He is the master.
-
We don't stand a chance now. :chuckle:
-
Sign me up, it was a ton of fun last year!
-
Ok, next question is on the format.
Would you guys prefer "free for all" or "tournament bracket/head to head" format?
-

Sounds like fun to me.

The only thing I would add in is a post count minimum. So people who contribute on here can enter and not let just anyone come in and do the contest and then leave with 1 post.
-
Im game again, I love to lose :chuckle: Im like the seattle Mariners of elk calling :chuckle:

:chuckle: thats better than the houston astros of elk calling.

post count minimum......my 95 posts may be minimal, but they all contain some amount of useful/relevant information and or interesting photographs. Others with hundreds or thousands of posts jabber about C-post, bashing Bilbo, a 36 page love affair between D Rock and H20 Hunter on a Spring Bear Thread(Congrats H20 Hunter...way to get er done!) or endless babble about special draw results out. Hitting "Post" doesn't necessarily qualify as contributing.
....no wonder the server is lagging.
Let's keep the elk calling contest open to people who can call. Best caller should get the win :twocents:

I think it depends on the quantity submissions. Wasn't there around 20 last year? Free for all was OK for that amount, but many more, might need a tourney.
-
Whats the phone number to call all the elk in? :chuckle:

I am not talking in any huge number like 25 posts. When someone with 1 post enters a contest put on for hw members and wins something. Only to never to be seen again I think that is not very fair to people on here. We have done it with other contests and I think it's fair for the members but that is my 2 cents.

I'm up for the Challenge again!!

No I stopped after BBD. Thread for me completed once harvest took place. Don't get me wrong, I love reading the journey, I just like them to be slighlty more concise and relevant to topic at hand....bear hunting.
Now to this topic. Let's hear more details about this contest. Length of calling sequence, date due, ect.

Bildo has got to join this year. He is the master.
J. Phelps himself doesn't even stand a chance. Lets just give the trophy to bildo now :chuckle:
-
I suck but I'm in.

I will probably stick to a one minute sequence consisting of; 20 seconds cow/calf, 20 seconds bull, 20 seconds freestyle
Judges: I will probably try and get some "accomplished" judges. I have recieved a lot of feedback on keeping the judging this way.
I need to also get prizes together.
-
I just ordered a gaggle of Phelps calls. This should be a guaranteed win now, right?
-
:yeah: If we are all using Phelps game calls how is there going to be a looser? except maybe me my cow calls sound like turkey calls... :dunno:
-
So far I have confirmation from Corey Jacobsen, Joel Turner and Dirk Durham for judges. Awaiting an answer from Paul. That's a pretty good group.
That would make 5 judges including myself. We will toss the high and low and average out the other three.
I'm thinking I will take submissions from July 8-22. More details and info to come.
-
Is that the best you could come up with? :chuckle: :chuckle: could we have this contest around september 12th at my elk camp? I was planning on having those guys up anyway. :IBCOOL:
-
I'd also like clarification on whether we are doing a sequence, trying to sound like an actual herd, or just trying to demonstrate all the different sounds, and do big gnarly bulges, balls and chucks like in an RMEF contest.. Also, I think we should clarify upfront whether it is to be one 60 second long uncut, unaltered recording, or if cutting and combining sounds into a total of 60 seconds is acceptable. Personally, I think there should be no editing-turn the recorder on and 60 seconds later turn it off and that is what you submit.

It needs to be one continuous 60 seconds. As far as what sounds to make that is up to you. The judges may all look for different things (remember that 4 out of 5 have called in competitions though).

I want the raw audio file that I will upload onto soundcloud under my account so that I can assign the random numbers.
-
I'm in again
-
Judges are set: Paul confirmed.
-
Alright game on! I definatly need some thing more constructive to do while I wait for the draw results! The backdoor thread is killing me!!
-
Bildo has got to join this year. He is the master.
-
Please post the sound clips on here when it's all said and done.
Should be neat to hear. It would be cool to know who's who too.
:)
-
Was fun last year... might as well get an early start on driving the wife and daughter crazy again this year!! Lol
-
@JP, So do we just need to download soundcloud or is there a better way to get you the raw audio file?
-
Soundcloud is the hosting site. I'm the only one who needs a soundcloud account. I will just want the RAW audio files e-mailed to me and I will upload the audio and give each caller a random number.
-
I may have to throw my hat in the ring as well. Jason if you need another judge or get someone that doesn't want to do it let me know. I'd rather judge than call, but if not, I'll enter.
-
I will take submissions from July 8-22.
Is everyone all tuned up? Looks like we will have prizes donated from Phelps Game Calls, Elk 101/extreme elk and elknut. If anybody else wants to donate any prizes or has Ideas I'm all ears or hands.
-
Will callers receive any feedback? Things they did good and things they need to work on.
-
Yeah, if the judges elect to leave feedback I can pass it on
-
Awesome I think it will really help people
-
count me in. whats the best way to record sounds and send through email? I know how to record sounds on my smartphone but is there a better way?
-
I am in ...just need to find a call to us

Getting everyone on the same page would be good. I don't have a smart phone,
-
There are a bunch of audio formats. Last year some people use their phones, some video cameras and extract the audio.
When I get home tonight I will get a list of all the acceptable audio formats accepted by soundcloud.

shut your face :tung:

Did this happen? I've been out of town and forgot all about it?
