Does anyone know of any taxidermist close to bellingham, who will mount birds
-
Closest I know of is birdhouse taxidermy in Arlington. I had a couple done there and they turned out great.
-
Take it from me after 1,000$+ of wasted money spend at local what com/skagit bird taxidermist ..must mail it to willow creek taxidermy in colville was. 235$ for a duck. His work is about as good as birdman studios. Avoid Whidbey island taxidermy.

My buddy has taken a bunch of birds up to Colville. It is a long drive but he does great work

John from Willow Creek Taxidermy does amazing work. He is a site sponsor and a lot of his work can be seen on here.
WCTaxidermy is his handle.

I just mail them they still get there frozen. They have the best communication of any taxidermist, he does great detail in the feet.

I've never heard if wilderness...I have heard good and bad about whidbey but have never taken a bird to them. :dunno:
-
Don't take it to Whidbey island trust me, wilderness (Roger) takes over a year to almost 2 years to get back. Just mail it John Naab at Willow Creek Tax. He takes pride in your trophy and hes an artist.

too late, took it there a while ago, but it was too molted to mount sadly. He still has my deposit, hoping to get another bird to do this year yet. The ones he had done around the shop looked great I thought...

Don't do it. I took my buck their as a buddy talked me into it. I think a doe or yearling form was used and it was harvested during the late season in Nov. It went from large neck to a neck like a stack of dimes. Must have slipped right over the forum. I was way bummed when I picked it up. You can go in and check some of the bird mounts in his shop. He is on par with Over the hill taxidermy in Clear Lake. :yike:
Nice guy but, not my choice for taxidermy. Maybe it will improve in due time. :dunno:

I have two mounts from their and they are both botched ones. Birds that look like their on crack.
Lots of guys like and talk about Leon's in Tri-Cities.

OTH did my brothers wood duck, it looks ok, the paint on the beak was poor, the bird looks ok overall though. But Ill never take another thing there. My loper had glue on the chest, missing hair, goofy ears...
whidbey did a buck, and a couple geese for a buddy, he was happy with his, did them in 2 weeks, it was a rush as he was moving.

I had him do a bunch of ducks and they weren't fleshed right they stunk of rot and bugs formed. Feathers fell out, he doesn't inject the feet which made them crack. He doesn't pin arount the eyes when there drying so the eyes on the side that's not facing out are closed. Yeah he will make your first mount look OK then after he thinks he's got your buisness he will make your other birds look crappy. I had to leave my thropys there cause I couldn't justify paying 225$+ for *censored*. There are 2 types of taxidermist : an artist , and a money taker. He's a money taker. So the ducks he did do for me that fell apart in less than a month (note nobody touched them when they were on the wall) I had to repay an actual artist to fix but then I had to dispose of them. I can gladly post pics. I just hate to see someone's trophy and masterpiece look bad.

He also uses hay to stuff the body form, um no you need the actual duck form. Hay made the ducks look lumpy. Also for certain ducks your gonna want a precasted head..such h as wood duck, that makes the mount last longer. He didn't use fake heads he used the real been also didn't clean them out making a new home for bugs. He makes them look like a 8th grader art project.

It's actually wood wool, not hay. My snow goose is loosing it's feathers and greasing out. Turning yellow from the fat not being removed. OTH is a money taker as mentioned.

The two bird guys I've used have been Leon Mathews at Avian Artistry and John at Willow Creek Taxidermy, both do great work, if they're not close enough to drive to then mail it to them, I think you'd be very happy with either of them.
-
OTH is really old school and always will be old school style tax, a lot has changed since then..new chemicals..new ways etc. John Nabb does an outstanding job. A lot of people are worried about $$ ship it. Well its in the same state, it costed me , 12$ to ship it. And about 20$ to ship back. If you live near Bellingham or Marysville area JohnNabb will drive out here during crab season and he will bring your birds with him to give to you at no extra cost. I'm a firm believer if you shot the bird and want it mounted you gotta pay the price to have it done correctly. Whibdey island also paints the feet and beek with with a paint brush leaving brush strokes and missed spots, John Nabb at will creek used a air brush and he laquers the feet. Making them life-like
-
Its all about details for me. Its your money, take it to a professional.

Matt @ Whidbey, . With the prob birds.
-
go with john and allysa at willow creek. exceptional people with a quality of work to match. i have done 8 birds with them over the last few years and have 7 more with them as i type. i made the mistake with going with someone else for my first birds years ago and they turned out like garbage. i happened to stumble upon wct from this site and gave them a go and will never use another taxi. im like a kid waiting for chirstmas, anticipating what they will come up with, and i have yet to be let down. tremendous job they have done thus far for me. a few birds they did for me are on their website. canvas back swimming was one, dead mount spoony, flushing mallard. go look, you wont be disappointed.
