What specific bag do you use to keep your birds?
-
Or, does your vest have pockets for game birds?
-
I really like my quilomene vest, its nice and light with enough pockets to carry all your stuff. It doesn't leave you soaked in your own sweat and allows your birds to cool down unlike most of that filson crap.
For major expeditions I really feel like the wing works vest can't be beat.

For long days hunting grouse and chukar, buy a WingWorks vest, accept no substitute.
Cabela's Ultimate Field Dog System vest is perfect for pheasant hunting on preserves and release sites.
Otherwise go light and buy a bird belt. I recommend Cabela's for those too.

The quilomene vest is pricey as well as the WingWorks.
Also, there isn't a lot of blaze in those vests. How do you get around that requirement?
I like the Field Dog system.

or if you ever need a blaze orange fly fishing vest, I believe the ultimate field dog system has enough useless pockets on it to get the job done. :tung:
I used that vest toward the end of Westside pheasant last year because it has a legal amount of orange on it. It definitely has enough pockets to put your stuff in and for a vest that isn't advertised as waterproof, it did a decent job of keeping the drizzle at bay for awhile.
My biggest beef with that vest is that the main cargo pockets will dump their contents when you bend over. sometimes even when they are snapped shut. I lost count of how many times all my shells poured out, or my pocket camera hit the ground.
If you keep that in mind and don't put anything valuable in those pockets its a pretty good vest, I believe I got mine on sale for like $40.

That is the only down fall of those two vests. either will outlast any cheaper vest you can find and both will out perform many in a comparable price range.
Wing works is a hell of a lot of vest for the money, plus the owner is a great guy to deal with. But its more for the guys that leave the truck in the morning and don't come back until they run out of shells, reach their limit, or it gets dark.
I wear a shooting shirt with blaze orange on it under my strap vests, or I just use a cheapo mesh blaze vest to wear underneath so I am legal.

When the temps are warmer I wear this with the blaze colors...

When the temps drop I wear a coat made from wet suit material that Cabela's has sold in the past that has blaze on the shoulders and arms (I don't see it on their web site currently, but that doesn't mean they don't still sell them).
I also make sure to wear a blaze hat. Honestly I've gone with just the WingWorks and the hat more times than I can count and never had a problem with game officers. But I try to play by the rules and don't hassle them if they want to talk. Heck, sometimes they even give some helpful advice for where to look for birds! But typically I try to put as much orange on as possible to be seen. Never know what fools are out there waiting to shoot what they think is a bear, deer, or an elk in the bushes.

The WingWorks balances weight out better than a lot of other vests in my opinion. It really is made for hiking all day. One of my complaints about the Cabela's vest is my shoulders and back start to hurt with enough weight. Not so with the WingWorks. You can also pack more water with the WingWorks.
The durability of the WingWorks was a major selling point for me as well. It would take a lot to shred that vest.
