Post by: Euro mount on June 26, 2013, 03:22:28 PM
So I have been putting my oldest son in for the peola muzzleloader tag for the last 5 years I have lots of land to hunt on there ... So this year I went to put him in an the state said that hunt # didn't exist so after trying 4 different times I put him in for 10-10 tag an he drew it now I am having trouble getting him a place to hunt!! Oh we'll we will keep asking if any of you guys have an land owner names or tips I would sure like the help.

A garmin gps with huntwa map will tell ya most landowner info so you have a starting point.  County assesors geodata maps as well.  What is 10-10 tag?

Where do you live?  Are you local or is it a drive?   Start knocking on doors.  Your son has the potential of killing a great elk with this tag.  Do a little legwork this summer and you should be set.  Have him go knock on the door.  Landowners always give preference to the kids, at least that's how it seems.

That's too bad!  How many points did he have?  Crazy that out of the 2 permits they gave out for this tag he got it.  Sending you a PM.

You are not going to have an easy time finding ground to hunt.  If you want to fork out some money it would be a different story.  That hunt was more or less set up for landowners.  Good luck

It's the name of a special permit hunt, covers gmu 163 and elk area 10-10.

What's a 10-10 tag?

10-10 tag is the elk special permits they created for private land in the Dayton unit. It was mostly created to appease the landowners who wanted a better shot at drawing permits to hunt the land they own rather than making them compete with all the other Dayton permit applicants. Basically, if you don't have private land access, you shouldn't apply for it because you're going to have a real hard time getting permission to hunt.

Good tag man! you can kill a masher with that tag.

A list of all those hunts that are most or all private would sure be handy.

If you read the area description of 10-10 it says "all land excluding National Forest."  Which essentially equals out to being able to hunt private, since there are two types of land there, private and National Forest

I think you are right Cory.  Wouldn't it be funny if he was using the "I screwed up" speech to pull a different angle to get help without guys saying "Why put in for this tag when you don't have land."  Its the perfect crime.  Plead that you messed up and put your kid in for it so people feel bad and want to help.  I think I just solved the mystery. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I love this site the way you think I'm using the info for me my son has the tag I thought I had ground to hunt but Cayhill is closed do to a dispute with wdfw an Bennett lumber over a land exchange program . I hunted Wilbur Eatens last year an had a hard time getting permission , he already gave permission for the muzzy hunt this year to Mike Caspers son out of walla walla . So I did my home work an thought I had some ground now that he has the tag it's falling apart on me an just thought one of the guys on here could help us out. I know the area really well but don't know a lot of the land owners. I was just looking for some names an numbers not your criticism ...... Thank you to those who have PMed me I have already sent some emails but could always use more can never have to many places to hunt  am as of now we have 0.

If I owned land there and recieved a email I would say no. Your sons best bet is to take a drive over there and have him ask land owners himself, face to face. :twocents:

I don't know if I should even suggest this, but maybe try getting a hold of a WDFW office and see if they have any tips for you. I know a lot of people on the forum are not happy with the WDFW sometimes, but if this is mostly a landowner type tag, I would think the WDFW would have some possible contacts. Might be worth a shot.

:yeah: If I was a land owner Id be much more inclined to let a young man asking me for permission face to face to hunt over his dad sending me an email.....just my opinion though

I was just giving you a bad time.  I was just having a little fun, I know you wouldn't do something like that.  I hope it works out for you and your son, it will be a fun one if a guy lets you hunt.  I sent you a PM about Paul, did you try to contact him?

The guy who burned his kid's points by putting him in for a landowner hunt is asking us if we're stupid... I believe Forrest Gump has a comment on this...

Look - you didnt say you were going to have the kid ask - these guys were just trying to help out with that suggestion.  Lighten up.

It does sound frustrating.  Keep at it and the young man will have a hunt he'll be eternally grateful for.   Might be a great chance to show him people arent goi g to be standing in line to help him out in life.  If I had property down there and a young fella came to me and sincerely offered to buck bales/move irrigation pipe/ or any other kind of work to get a few days to hunt my land, I'd find a way to make it happen.  Heck, I'd probably end up making something up for him to do so he could earn it...
Best of luck to you guys-

You join a site, start a post about you screwing up and then have the gall to call us stupid? Brilliant!!! :chuckle:

My reply was to your post, in which you not once mentioned a Bio, but rather went on about several different land owners and said you sent out emails, and we are supposed to know the emails were to a bio? :chuckle:

Those of us that do have friends and connections with land over there are sure to be overwhelmed with your warmth and charming personality shown in your posts so far, good luck to your son though!

I'm opposed to special "landowner tags" of any kind.  The wildlife belongs to all of us.  Too bad their ground is closed.  Too much abuse of landowner tags in other states that I've seen.  This coming from a guy that has max moose points and watches 2 bulls in the winter on his cabin's place.... *sigh*   We should get landowner moose tags for private access only. :bdid:

Anybody can draw those tags(obviously I guess by the theme of this thread), you just have to get permission to access the land. There is no landowner preference for drawing.

WOW!  Well you put in for this tag and were lucky to draw it.  Don't forget it.  No knowledge of it first will limit your success.  Frustration for your mistake isn't our responsibility as we try to help.  Wish your boy good luck but you get more flys with honey!  I can be stupid so that's cool.  But I wont ever try that tag.  Just saying.
