Seems no one is paying attention to what is going on in Skagit Co ...they are out in force and the word has been out for months now ...why would you even think about poaching anything from salmon to elk thinking you are getting away with it ... :o W.
While patrolling DNR land above Hamilton, Officer Ludwig encountered a suspicious vehicle -- although the area is closed to ORVs, there were two machines in the back of this pickup truck. As Officer Ludwig made contact with the driver, the alert and naturally curious officer quickly realized that there was much more to this 'routine' contact than he originally thought when he noticed blood on the driver's hands. Caught red-handed, the driver willingly confessed to poaching salmon. But Officer Ludwig knew better -- there are no salmon or salmon-bearing tributaries in the area. After some coaxing, the suspect finally admitted to shooting a deer.... but Officer Ludwig, who was now questioning the validity of everything this guy was telling him, pressed on. Eventually, the REAL truth came out: the suspect had poached a bull elk, took about seven pounds of meat from one hind quarter, and left the animal behind without a proper field dressing. Officer Ludwig was able to locate the elk, field dress it, and then donate it to a local organization. Big Game poaching charges to follow.
we have a top dog in town and he is for sure making a name for himself ...He is everywhere ,,,from the river to the woods you are not hiding from him ...Poaching elk in JULY Just is un heard of and I have no mercy on your butt for doing So !!! Good Job JL ! That's a compliment from JB personally !

Wow.......hope they take the truck, the quads....even his knife.
-

-
Bravo Zulu to Officer Ludwig .. and to you JB for the post !
-
Nice catch, seven pounds of meat and leave the rest to waste, poachers are the worst. >:(
-
And he took hindquarter meat? Left backstrap there to rot??
What a moron. Big "" to Officer Ludwig.
-
:yeah:
-
Seems this officer is doing a great job! Well done Sir  Keep up the great work!!
-
I have no patience for this. I hope they take everything in his possession at the time of the crime, get's a nice large fine, and some jail time. When poachers are caught they need to feel some consequences.
-
Good Job JL
:yeah:
Good job, warden.
That poacher is a piece of excrement and a moron. I hope he gets the book thrown at him.

Abso-freaking-lutely :yeah:
I hate poachers. :bash:
-
What a clown--he could have poached a couple of rabbits and gotten 7 pounds of meat. 200+ lbs would have all gone to waste! :bash: :bash:
-
:bdid:
-
Looks like fish and wildlife is getting a new vehicle and quad....great job
-
Wow, that's just horrible. What a waste of an animal, meat and a good hunt. Poachers, especially out of season, are some of the worst people. They arn't even being sneeky anymore. I hope they take everything he has and leave him in the woods. Maybe the bears will fix this guy. :chuckle:
-
Go search the poachers house, probably not the 1st time he's done it.
-
Glad they caught the SOB!

I would think that's part of the plan (standard operating procedure). I seem to remember someone else on here that had a visit from the wardens and I think they took a peek in their freezer just based off of a facebook picture.

Warden Ludwig is also an avid hunter.

My bro-inlaw lives on the north side of 20 where some of the nooksack elk roam, a couple year ago his neighbor had a big bull come running out of the woods and die in his driveway. I don't know if they ever caught the guy but if that bull hadn't of run out like that the guy probably would have gotten away with it. Things like that are so frustrating!!!! >:(
Im glad they caught this guy, catching poachers is tricky
-
7 pounds. He killed an elk for 7 pounds of meat. I am going to be sick

:yike: yeah ..that's right ..I know about that one :bash: :bash: same place the 9x9 was poached too !

Its just sad to think about how much of this crap that goes on and poachers are never caught! Hope they give him what he deserves. :bash:

That's what bothers me the most. Some might say the worst offense is that it's out of season but I can't possibly make an excuse for someone who was going to let an upright freezer full of meat go to waste. >:(
-
I wonder what else that guy was up to? to Ludwig
-
WOW, what a waste of flesh, not only that of the elk but a waste of human flesh, IMO!
I hope the courts don't drop the ball and that this piece of trash receives a stiff enough sentence to "convince" him to make better decisions in the future!
-
Awesome that Ludwig went back and salvaged the meat!
Hope they throw the book at the poacher.
Count 1 - poaching
2 - waste of meat
3 - leaving the backstraps and tenderloins.
They get to confiscate his orv and rig too?
-
This is sickening. I hope this guy losses everything.

Disgusting!!!! :puke: Hang 'em high!
-
reason they poach is most the time they get away with it :bash: They figure if u take the hunter harvest of deer and elk and double it is about how many animals are poached

:yeah: I have no idea who that would be :chuckle: and he was the one who came to that persons house with the warrant ....wonder if he ever found what he thought he was going to find ...I better ask that person !
-
I don't get worked up too much these days! But damn I would love to whip his ass!! Just incredible to take 7 pounds of meat!!!
Sick sick sick
-
Officer Ludwig is a great guy. He took the time to process a poaching case on my property on the east side while he was on vacation bow hunting last winter. I think he had like three days vacation for a quick bow hunt and he spent part of it working. He was glad to do it. Everyone that bad mouths game wardens hasn't met John. I'm glad he's on the job!
-
That's a shame, I hope his truck and guns will be at the auction! !
-
good work officer!!
-
Horrible :'(
-
Well done officer!
