Post by: Little Fish on October 17, 2008, 03:39:13 PM
Anyone hunt either of these units during the late season? If so...how are the crowds?

Haven't hunted the willapa in the late season, but the ryderwood gets busy on the weekends.  If you can head out on a week day.  It won't be crowded.  Hope for some snow.  Makes the hunting pretty good in there.

With the roads open its tough getting off the beaten path. I figure the next best thing is fewer people in the woods.

I have hunted Ryderwood for years.  This will be my first year hunting there in archery but I can tell you there is alot of people that hunt that unit.  It seems that there is more people every year.  I know that there wasnt hardly anything killed in early archery or muzzy but you never know you might be able to to get one of those hoof rotted cows!! I would hunt the willapa hills much better hunting.

I find it hard to believe they havnt fixed that yet.It is a mainline after all.Sounds like lumber jacks trying to keep some hunters out to me... :chuckle: :chuckle:

They aren't going to fix it any time soon, if ever.  At least that is what I have been told.

It wasn't a logger that told us that... And we were also told that they were thinking it will be a long while before they fix it, if they ever do.

All of the Weyerhaeuser land that makes up the west end of the Ryderwood unit is now walk in only. Like was said before it might be a while before they fix some of the bridges.

Sure it's all open. You just have to walk or ride a non-motorised vehicle. And yes it's all from the storm last December. As far as I know the only bridge left standing is about ten miles upriver from Pe Ell.

It's been almost a year of logging nothing but blowdown.  There still is a lot on the ground.

Regarding Willapa Hills.....if the 1000 line is blown out are there other good access points coming from the north or should I come in from the south?
