Title: White River Forest
Post by: Russ McDonald on July 11, 2013, 01:28:27 PM
Just looking for general information.  Is the White River Forest any good for hunting?  Deer or elk?  I am thinking about getting the Hancock permit for wood and hunting but want to know how good the hunting is?

if your talking about the white river unit out of green water it's permit only for elk, open for deer. I've hunted that area most my life, mostly in the high country for elk before it went permit and in all my years I've seen maby 3 nice blacktail. I wouldn't waste my time buying the permit, just my 2 cents. It is a good elk tag if you know where to look if u draw it.

I was talking about this https://hancockrecreationnw.com/white-river/about/about-white-river (https://hancockrecreationnw.com/white-river/about/about-white-river) which covers Issaquah and Green River GMU's.  The wood alone is worth the permit but I want to know how good the hunting is out there so I can justify it even more.

Hancock WR tree farm is going to be sold FYI and it sounds like weyerhaeuser is gonna be buying it back off of them. Not sure what they will do with access to the area or the permits. As far as hunting, not much area for elk since its permit only in 653 GMU, and you have to compete with the Mucks in there so ya... Wood is worth the permit though no doubt. They have also been completely mowing down any good size tree areas which makes sense that they are selling now cause there wont be much for good wood cutting for a few years to come. For hancock its all about the short term gains...
