Title: Good Cheap Trail Camera??????? (pictures added 7/27/13)
Post by: PA BEN on July 13, 2013, 05:25:10 AM
Now that I'm back home in Chewelah I can do my scouting before season starts. The move over, getting the house ready to sell in PA not to mention the payment until it sells, bills over her will have me strapped for cash. So my question is are the low end camera's like the ones you see at Walmart any good? What are the good low end cameras?

Ive got 3 of the $50.00 Tascos form Walmart and the only downfall I found was that they only take 1 picture every 30 seconds with a relatively slow wake up time. Meaning unless the cam is pointed down a trail your gonna get alot of butt shots or empty pictures.

I personally like Primos Truth Cams (I have 35's) Simple to use and you can set it to take 1 3 or 5 pictures every 10,30,60 seconds I believe with video as well. Their normally like $79 but Naches sporting had refurbished ones for $50 (which I bought 3 of) Been running them for a few months. I havnt had any probelms with the refirb ones except that ONE camera does make a significant clicking noise atleast what I can tell from the pictures and videos. Its not loud enough to scare the elk off but it does make em stop and look around a bit

wildview ir2 find em for 50.00 i have 4 had 5 till i ran one over. they dont hold up to a toyota but they take decent pics at a good price. i havent tried the video feature but my theory is a can buy 4 for the price of 1 higher quality.

Sportsmans guide has some in the low $40 range.

right now they have a 2 for $79 deal going i think.

I only run cheap cameras.......   lots of cheap cameras vs a few expensive ones.   But I'm no pro, that's just my choice.

Moultrie D55 IR is a good cheap cam and I also have a primos truth cam35 that has been a good cheap cam. Both have good battery life and decent pics.

Natchez sells refurbished Primos Truth 35 cams for around $50 each or you can get Truth 60 cams for like $80. I have 4 of the 60 cams and have had no issues in the last year. They all came with warranties as well. Check them out before you buy anything else.

I got the Truth cam 46 from Natchez the refurbished one took great pics once I got it aimed right :-) a bear bit it or pawed it and the screen stopped lighting up so I sent it back to Primos for repair still waiting to see what they do about that issue

once you narrow down your price range, take the lot and go to http://www.chasingame.com/ (http://www.chasingame.com/)  I have found this site really helpful in the past.  Good reviews are done, and no bias.  from my experience, cheap cameras have 3 main weaknesses; sensor range, battery life, motion blur at night.  just get the best you can afford but realize that some times having two ok cheap cameras is better then 1 nice camera; at least for scouting an area for animals.

p.s consider a camera with AA not c's or d's, although its the opposite of women. AA's are better (because of cost to replace) in the long run.

Purchased one from Costco a couple years ago and it stopped working the second day I had it out. Took about 150 pics and that was it.

Well I decided to go with the Primos Truth 35 from Wal-Mart for 78 bucks. I had it pointed at a trail and had it moved from the trail to up the draw, I did get a spike after it got moved. Here is who moved it and the before and after pictures.

Ok PA, I'm stumped. Did you get more pics from this set. That one pic at first glance looks to me like a panther. What is it?

The neck and ears tell me it's a bear. That's all the pictures I have of him. He's a big bear because he brushed my camera with his side as he walked by, it's over 3 ft off the ground.

I unpacked my old game camera, I think I'll go up today or tomorrow and put it up in the same spot at a different angle. But, I'm looking for deer not bears :bash:

It hard to tell? :dunno:  I say bear.  There was a black cougar in the same gmu as the OP lives. This was 7-8 years ago but it was seen by numerous people.
