So its a center pin reel?

More like a single action line-holder reel. Same basic idea as a center-pin, but not near the smoothness needed for casting like a center-pin. They were used back in the day, mostly for salt water mooching and trolling. Can't imagine casting with one. Some guys still actually use the old Heddon winona reels for mooching- they're pretty similar.

For using it- I'd match it up with some funky old rod and hang it on the wall for a decoration.

Rig it up first, catch a fish on it, then put it on the wall....

Almost looks more like a kite reel to me. I've never seen a center pin that mounts to the reel seat that way, but I don't know. I would definitely not use it... can you imagine trying to palm that sucker on a decent fish...

Mine has wire for line. Looks almost exactly like that from memory. I'll check if there's a name on it.
