hello to all and thanks for your helpI'm new to deer hunting Pierce Co. Here is the problem I need help with. I live in Puyallup and I'm looking for a quick place to go on an evening hunting after work I looking to find someplace that is 30-45 min away. During the week I'll be bringing my 2 boy (age 5 & 8) with me so I'm looking for some place that we can drive in and do a little bit of walking and watch some cut's, jack firs, and stuff. Thanks for reading and any all suggestion.

Lots of areas out that way, take your pick. Go get a Washington Gazeteer Map book and look into it. Eatonville, Enumclaw, Concrete all come to mind.

go out to alder lake.Go in at the the water tank on the left right before you enter ashford i think before the scale burger place.That is buisy wild creek.Use to be good.I once hiked in there 2 miles.Saw 9 deer,took 2 shots missed them all during muzzleloader.All deer were seen from the road on the hike in.

Buy a 300 dollar family pass into Hancock next year. It's above Kapowsin Lake and borders Mt Rainier, Elbe Ashford land.

Go to Wilkeson. Deer and some elk. Drive through town past the coke ovens to the Plum Creek property. I am not sure if you can drive in or who even owns it anymore. There is a camp out there called Sunrise I think. Enumclaw is good too. If you go out towards Elbe then Morton, you can access state land off the Pleasant Valley Road over Alder Lake. Lastly, Ft Lewis is real good. I have not gone over to register this year though. You have to bring ID, hunting license, insurance card, plate number, and lastly the serial numbers of all guns you plan to use on the Fort. They must be registered with the MP's. You get a pass at the main gate unless you are military, then go over to North Fort to the Northwest Adventure Center. You watch a video and then are able to sign up for an open area. You can only call in the day before or the day you plan to hunt. Areas change weekly and fill up fast. Biggest blacktail I ever saw killed was off the fort. A monster 5x5 I swore was a mule deer. I have killed deer in areas 11, 19, 23. Saw deer in 9, 10, 12, and most of the others.

If you wanna drive then I would try the 74 off of Hwy 7 heading south. Its near the cut off for Mineral Lake. You can drive in for miles, and for walking it aint too bad. If your kids are tuff then about a mile south of the town of Carlson is a gate on the left side of the road. Park there and hike in following the road to the right. It takes you to few clearcuts that arent too bad.

The last few times i have gone back on pleasant valley, the gates have been locked that go up to the 74. Not sure how you can get into that 74 road system though. Unless the 74 road is open south of the pleasant valley road. Talked to an older resident in the area, and he said the elk sign this year was pretty good, but that he hadn't seen the deer numbers he usually sees. Looks like there has been some pretty fresh clearcutting behind mineral as well, not sure how to get to that either, but it's newer clearcuts than some of the 10 year old cuts in the area.
I was in the nf last saturday, and saw a dead elk, looked to be a couple weeks old, also saw a bt doe that had been hind quartered and backstrapped.

I drove by the 74 from Hwy 7 last Saturday and the gate is open. I am pretty sure it is always open. I havent driving up there since last year though.

The Sunset road is all forest service land now. I've been up there all season and have seen 7 deer (all does and very wooded unless you drive in about 10-12 miles). The first road used to be the best but, the gate is locked due to thinning of clear cuts. Maybe next year.
