Title: Rant time!!!
Post by: Dhoey07 on July 26, 2013, 06:34:53 PM
Didn't springer fish cause it was only open for one day on the weekend for one fish, didn't sockeye fish cause I'm not going to drive 3+ hours for 2 16" fish with the possibility of a dark washedout king, my 2 favorite lakes to fish ( badger and fish) are being killed off to plant slime rockets, there's no steelhead left in the puget sound, the puyallup and carbon will be lined for miles with humpy snaggers, down to one king a day in MA-9, the Snyder creek program is done, no smelt to dip.....so I can't wait till sept 1 so I can go shoot something  :bash:

Agreed but we have to be happy with things like 3 fish limits (not talkin humpies) king retention on the satsop and salmon fishing on the Nooch, also chum retention on the hump. There ate some good things.

And to add-- halibut closed early in a couple areas (and season was 5 days shorter than last year), shrimp closed early in an area, the cabezon season/limit fiasco, closing down the hatchery hole on the Sol Duc, sturgeon closed early....no telling what's in store for later in the year.  :'(

if you really want to get depressed, the regulations books are archived online back to 1997.  while there is some give and take over the years(some areas i fish have higher limits and longer seasons than back then) for the most part what we've lost is huge.  i've got a regulations book from 1992, it's something like 40 pages compared to the encyclopedia we have now.

can't say i'm entirely happy about the king retention on the satsop, it'll be nice to be able to keep those hatchery kings we've been having to release for a long time, but i'm a little scared about the massive increase in pressure it's gonna bring.  it's already crowded enough without all the rest of the seattle area guides clogging up the river.  there's something about kings that brings out the worst in people...i'd rather catch silvers any day.

Its not gonna be as bad as you think, at least the hump fish will get a break.

Story of my life, bro.

If I were to think too much about it, I'd fall into severe depression and quit fishing altogether.
Realistically, we have lost opportunity after opportunity that we will likely never get back. The other side of the coin is that some fisheries are actually better than 20/30 years ago. Chin up. There's still some decent stuff out there.

I prefer everyone staying on the hump.  At least you know what you are in for when you go there.  I'm with BigGoon on this one.  And, for the love of god, stop pointing out that good fishing exists in places I fish.  We don't need more pressure!

My cousin is fishing area 11 right now, 3 kings and 1 silver in the boat. You should try area11?

you guys should probably roll over and give up fishing. That way when the cowlitz fall run doubles and the springer run takes a huge jump I'll be all alone. Probably need a big boat to haul them home with.

Don't forget our new sockeye fishery on the Columbia that we didn't have 4 years ago. Soon expected to be 1 milllion strong. Also going to be seeing lots more summer kings with the new hatchery going into production this year.

 :dunno:

I'm looking fwrd to some up coming fisheries myself.
