I am going into my final year at Washington State University, one of my checklists before I leave is to go deer hunting. I am an avid upland bird hunter but a rookie when it comes to deer. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions or hints on where to go or resources I could use to help me learn and prepare for the season. Thanks!

I think your best bet is to go out to the breaks of the Snake River and start knocking on doors. If you knock on enough, someone will tell you yes and show you right where to go. Then you have your foot in the door for some possible Chukar hunting. Also, are there deer where you bird hunt?

If you've established relationships with landowners for bird hunting, I'd start there. As you have probably seen, there is no shortage of deer in the county. Good bird cover is good deer cover.

I would bet you have farm kids in your classes. Ask around. Some large families with tons of Land. Network some. Hunt archery or muzzy. Offer to take a doe
