that is actually good advice.  if you hunt for elk.... you should be able to pick up a topo map and get some places in mind before ever stepping out the door.

Google maps, find water, food and escape areas and you'll do just fine!

This is funny ....ELK Heights  R.d ....Me and my Bowhunting buddy decided to start bowhunting in Eastern Washington ...I think it was around 1993  :chuckle: As we come threw Cle  we Seen this Sign that said elk heights ...We say to each other ...Hmmmm...that means there just has to be elk up this road  :dunno: This was late archery season ...and snow on the ground ...We start driving back the dirt road and not many people were hunting this area at the time we found it ...once we got to the green water tower there were elk tracks everywhere  :yike: :archery_smiley: So we look at each other and decide the game is on ...we parked the truck and decided to split up ...he got on some fresh tracks and I headed down around so we would meet up ...I go about a half mile and there they are 6 cows ...I try to slip up on them and they finally seen me and headed back up toward the road ...I chase them around for about an hour ..never really spooking them ...So I get to the road and see my buddy sitting on my tailgate ...I am like ...DUDE WHAT THE HECK YOU DOING ...He says I followed tracks all over down there but never seen anything ,,,..I tell him I just chased 6 cows across the road ...Lets wait a few minutes and we will head up behind them ....This really peeresses me off .... :bash: :bash: My buddy is Mr Recurve ....So anyway we start up the hill and I am in the lead ....as we head up the ridge we come to a little draw that is coming down to our right ...I look down to our right and there they are .....25 yrds Max ....broadside  :o I look back and signal him they are right there looking at us .....I then tell him to go ahead a smoke that lead cow ....He pulls back and WHACK ....Right under her belly  :yike: :bash: :bash: they take off up the hill and stop about 45 to 50 yards and I pull back and tunnel vision got me too !!! I put the pin right behind her shoulder and SHAAAA WHACK ...NAILED A TREE 6 FEET IN FRONT OF ME  :bash: :bash This story goes on but we had a blast and that was the start of us hunting Elk Heights  R.D ....and we have killed some elk in there for many years until they came in and logged it !!! That was the hottest most likely driven by spot known to man ....I always seen elk in there ..archery and muzzy season ....Plus I seen 2 monster 6x6 bulls the next year when they decided to go to permit  :bash: :bash: I could give ya about 10 yrs worth of good stories from that area !
