I recently purchased a 6.5 Grendel barrel from Black Hole weaponry (http://blackholeweaponry.com (http://blackholeweaponry.com)). Given all the long lead times to get parts I was quite excited to see it arrive. I wanted to have it melonite coated so I sent it off to Texas to have that work done. When I got it back, I assembled the AR – 15 and checked the chamber with a go gauge. The bolt would not close.
I called up BHW and they send to send in the upper. When they looked at it they found it was not quite to spec so they tried to trim up the chamber. Well, with a melonite coating, the metal becomes so hard that there is no way the cutter can could make a mark on the chamber, let alone trim it.
They said that they would replace the barrel, but I was disappointed that I was out the 200+ dollars it cost me to have it coated.
Well, my new barrel arrived today. Guess what? Not only did they replaced my barrel with a brand new one, but they then took two spare bolts and recessed the bolt faces by 0.005 so that the go gauge would close on my original barrel.
This was way above and beyond in my mind. Not only did they stand behind their barrel with a replacement, but they sent me two modified bolts to make my melonite coated barrel work!
Very happy with the outcome of this!

Rob....that thing sure looks like a shooter. What are your plans? Long range plinking? Varmits? Zombies?
-
Hoping to do some longer range plinking with it. Really hoping that it is a good shooter. BHW came well recomended for accruate AR barrels so I have high hopes when I get it out this weekend.

Do they have load suggestions or will you be working up loads with your usual casual approach?
-
I did not ask for load suggestions, I was planning to try a few loads based my usual approach. I have a few bullets that I have collected over the past year (it took that long to get all the parts to come it - picked a bad time to build an AR...)

Try some factory Hornady 123gr A-Max, it's is amazing spooky accurate through a couple of our Grendel's and at Grendel velocities it would be a deer destroyer.

Carl is a great guy to do business with. As their Washington state storefront, we deal together daily! Couldn't ask for a guy with more integrity to do business with!! Two thumbs up!
-
So how has that barrel worked out? I am researching building my own AR and a buddy told me to check them out. Totally green to this build so any info is great! Thanks

the AMAX's shot OK out of my barrel, but a 120 nosler handload shot way better. on top of 8208 powder. If you want the recipe let me know.
Nice rifle and story, I may have to give them a try!

I have a Black Hole 20 LBC 20" barrel. (6.5 Grendel necked down to .204). I love it! I just built a 6mmX6.8 SPC rifle around a Black Hole barrel, and it barely drops from 100 to 300 yards. I'll probably still use my 20. I only built the 6mm6.8 for the fun of it... I ordered my 6mm barrel just before the move, so it was quite a wait. That's the only bad part about Black Hole. If you order a custom chambering or length, it will take a while to get to you.

I just finished building the second rifle with the replacement barrel. they are both shooting sub moa with 120 grain nosler bullets.
