Title: What's the difference between low-profile and high-profile Weaver rings?
Post by: dmv9 on August 01, 2013, 08:14:08 PM
I've got a Ruger American 30-06 and need to get a scope for it but obviously need the rings first.

Any ideas?

It's how high the rings are off the rifle. If you're going with a 40mm objective lense, go low.

Is 40mm objective enough glass? Is a 50mm that much better?

I'm looking at Nikon Prostaff.

It's enough for most hunting scenarios. 50's are nice but they're also big and the scope is that much higher off the rifle. Not always what you want. As low as you can go is best case scenario in my opinion.

pick the scope first and buy the best you can afford it will be worth it . I really don't care for weaver rings . pick a decent leupold and leupold bases and rings you wont regret it .

Unfortunately, can't afford the Luepold stuff. I'm going with Nikon Prostaff.

Look at www.binoculars.com (http://www.binoculars.com) before Amazon.

Buy a Redfield Revolution, made by Leupold, lifetime warranty, great scope for the money, you won't be disappointed.

It's how high the rings are off the rifle. If you're going with a 40mm objective lense, go low.

Aren't the Weaver rings rated a little low in comparison with Millett and Leupold?  I'm thinking you need medium rings to get a 40mm scope to work with Weaver rings  :dunno:  I know their Grand Slam "High" rings are only rated to 44mm.
