Title: Pelican Case set up
Post by: addicted on August 03, 2013, 05:34:39 AM
Just put new foam in a couple of used pelican 1400's and I was looking for everyone else's layouts and cool ideas before I go beyond the point of return. Thinking I have space for Gun, mags, knife, ammo, flashlight and maybe a little more.

Now i've got both pluck n pull foam and a solid peice for each of the 2 cases I have. Does anyone have any custom pelican case layouts?

I do like the one in the vid.
I would personally like the flashlight and knife on top layer with the gun and the mags.

This one is kinda cool, even though its not a 1400.

I have 1200's for my pistols and a other stuff.  I ended up going simple with my 1700 and 1750... Just a cutout for the rifle and mags... For my pistol cases which are the pick-n-pluck-n-pull... I just took out one layer, and it mashes the pistol and magazines in there and hold them securely... I thought about going fancy... But in the end, they are really for transporting them somewhere... The rest of the time its on my person, with my spare mag, knife, flashlight and such.

I hate to say it, but in the end I think you would be more happy with a simple layout without trying to fit everything in it.  While a nicely cut out pelican case looks slick, unless you are going to put all that stuff into it and leave in there all the time for a grab-n-go, they are really no different from any other gun case that sits in a closet until a short trip to the range and back.  The nice thing about not cutting too much, or even not at all is that you can then use the case later of for other things.  My pistol case doubles as my bino/rangefinder case most of the time.

When I did my 1750 I went all out the first time and did coutouts for my rifle, 4 mag slots, kestrel, rangefinder, mag holder, pistol, and two boxes of ammo... Then I realized all it really did was take away from the padding for what I was really trying to protect, and that was my rifle and optic.  All those voids for other stuff allowed my rifle to move in the case if every slot wasn't filled because it was a void for the foam to crush into.  So I got a new foam, cut out my rifle, mags and called it a day.  I have other cases for other things.  Being that this will be a pistol case though, its not as impact sensitive as a scope, but still want your investment protected. :dunno:
