What is stupid about this?  It is illegal!  They should have immediately contact DNR when the deer was brought to them.  It could have been taken back an possible returned to its mother.  I bet they are well aware of the law and chose to do their own thing.  I would not be surprised if Giggles was returned to the wild as an adult only to be harvest by some hunter.  Then the cry of look what those evil hunters did to Giggles.

Bottom line this deer is dead because the animal shelter chose to ignore the law.

did they go overboard in the execution of the warrant?  I don't know but, I will to except that their is a lot we do not know about this shelter.

You must love paying your taxes.
How much money was wasted to kill a fawn that was scheduled to be at a "sanctioned" facility the next day.
Sounds like someone dropped it off at their place, they went through the proper channels to do right thing, next thing you know there's drones flying around taking photos, then a swat team....
Let's say you pick up a cougar scull in the woods on a Friday, and planned on delivering to the WDFW office Monday morning when they open (in fact, you called a left a message to this affect) Saturday there is a million dollar drone doing fly overs of your place(and probably satellite recon also), and a flippin' swat team shows up on Sunday and busts down your door and smashes the scull to oblivion. For no other reason than you were breaking the law.
Sometimes common sense should prevail.
They wasted tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands dollars to execute a FAWN.
That's full retard,
the fawn could have been used for research or put in a zoo, or been transported to the shelter with one whole officer and a truck.
Welcome to the Obama era

Wannabe NAZI gestapo dont have any common sense or they would refuse to be a part of such an overbearing waste of time and resources and they would seek a way to make a living that is productive and benefits our country instead of looting it.

Do a little more digging. Earlier in the week the DNR contacted the shelter and asked them to turn over the fawn. They refused. What is the DNR supposed to do? Let them blatantly break the law then refuse to comply and rub it in their face?

Well then if thats the case then they should have known it was not going to turn out good. It still doesnt warrent a swat team and killing the fawn.

I didn't watch the video. Where did this happen and was it really the DNR, or was it the WDFW?

The DNR doesn't normally get involved with wildlife issues.

Wisconsin and yes was DNR, it says 9 DNR agents and 4 Deputy Sheriffs’. The interview at end is Warden Supervisor with DNR...I truly understand that the laws have to be enforced, but they weren't going after a Columbian Drug Kingpin, they were there to seize a deer...Little overboard as far as resources and manpower I believe, but what do I know I’m just a lowly tax payer  :twocents:

Okay, makes more sense now. The DNR in Wisconsin is not the same as the DNR here. I assumed this thread was about the Washington DNR.

Jeffro, the full retard comment really did make me laugh good stuff.  This is a big deal because it shows another massive overreach of our government.  This could have been handled by a couple of officers flashing a badge instead lets blow more tax dollars than most folks make in a decade to euthanize a fawn.  Pure stupidity, and I hope heads roll for it.

:yeah: Totally over-board for the situation. Could have been  handled just as easily with a visit from a single officer before pulling out the recon drones and swat gear. If that happened here I would be writing letters to my elected officials asking that the people responsible for approving such irresponsible use of public resources/manpower be fired.

Don't forget many of these so called shelters are affiliated with the very groups that what to end hunting.  These are the same groups that support illegal actions if it supports their agenda.  As I said before the response may have been a little overboard.  However, we do not know the history of the shelter or it's affiliations.  We probably never will.  There is a lot that law enforcement agencies know that we do not.  Things that would not make it to the press until after due process.  More often that not when we hear of raids that appear excessive there is another side to the story.  Just a little to soon to judge.

Do a little more digging. Earlier in the week the DNR contacted the shelter and asked them to turn over the fawn. They refused. What is the DNR supposed to do? Let them blatantly break the law then refuse to comply and rub it in their face?

This should tell you a lot about the organization.   Did they refuse or just flat out lie about it's existence?

Jeffro; like every other tax paying American I grumble and groan about taxes.  Like every other American I enjoy the freedoms, amenities, and services those taxes pay for.  So long as I pay the same rates as everyone else I don't complain to much.  Everyone has an opinion but, few really now how and why those taxes are spent.  I have worked all three sides, Government, Corporate, and Private.  I have seen amazing wastes of money.  So far the greatest amount was corporations who work with investors money.  Amazing as it may seam we aren't getting as screwed on how our taxes are spent as many of us who have money in the market.  Yup, the whole thing is a mess.  But, we could have it much worse.  All one has to do is spend a few hours reading the news on other countries.

I hope that some day we hear about a similar raid on the humane society or PETA or one of the many other organizations disguised as a charity.  In reality a training exercise would cost about the same or maybe even a little more.  I have no problem with them doing a little training on a charity that lies to law enforcement.  Especially if they are anti hunting or supported by an anti-hunting charity.

Where do you guys get the "drone" thing. I didn't hear anything about a drone. Just that they had aerial photos which were most likely from google earth looking at the layout of the place. Either way was it overkill? YES. A waste of taxpayer money? Probably. However these people clearly knew they should've contacted DNR of F&G immediately. Personally I think they wanted a new pet. I also can't totally disagree with euthanizing it.

I can only speak for myself of course...I don't have a problem with them going in an taking the fawn, or even with them killing it. My *only* issue is waste of taxpayer money. I am getting sick of stories of our government spending tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to do things that could be done with only a couple hundred or less. As an example(and I know it is less than a drop in the bucket) but look at the signing ceremonies when a President signs something....it's like a separate pen for each letter of his name, and that seems to be what our government(at all levels) considers "fiscal responsibility".

"Hey Jim, we need a hammer."
"Sure thing Ted, should I order 1 or 2 dozen?"

It just makes me sick.  :bdid:

In the old days I'd agree with a single officer for this call.  I think in today's political Monday morning quarterbacking a DNR officer and partner and backup from a sheriff's deputy should've been the extent.  One officer could've handled this, but there's probably all kinds of LEO protocol nowadays to require some assistance.  But 13 LEOs just seems quite overboard.  Unless some detail was left out.
