Even at 62 I can at least look back and remember the trips where I didn't come home and have to eat tag soup :bash: and now I'm just hopin this might be the year I can maybe fill both tags :hunter:
The first and second shots 3rd are from 1987 when I was dumb, young and a lot better fit and a good friend helping get it out . 4th one is from a year ago same 30 year old T/C Hawkins. Shot the rifling out of the barrel but wrote TC and they checked it out then sent me a free barrel. GOOD COMPANY if you ask me.
Anyways got a trip planned for elk this year and my finger is itchy how about yours. Got a shot or two you'd like to share?

Not quite ready but this Thursday at the MSVL Rifle Range will 'close the loop'.
An 'even more aged than myself' friend and I are treating ourselves to a Bearpaw Muzzy Whitetail hunt this year! :IBCOOL:
Couple of old duffers and a couple smokepoles. What could go wrong!?! :yike:

Well Duffer there will be 3 of us all 62, yea what could go wrong???? :) Your hunt in the Bearpaws wouldn't happen to be in Montana would it? I graduated in Fort Benton Mt. snd dad use to take us to the Bearpaws and that's where I got my very first deer, also did some creek fishin there.

I HEARD THAT, when my son got his first deer we got a picture of him, me, my bestfriend and his deer with a huge valley and a mountain right behind us and the color is awesome, he drug his little spike all the way to the truck all by himself and then he road in the back of the truck with his deer all the way out of the hills, he wasnt to happy when we had to make him get in the cab with us.... i only hope my daughter is up for it, she shot a grouse and says she can shoot a buck, so we will see this fall

Cbond It bites the BIG ONE now a days for smokepolers with no regular muzzy season:bash: Hunted it for a lot of years till I got tired of seeing nothing but branched bulls and it was spike only , now you got to be pretty lucky to the the one bull tag :yike: Plus all the rumors of the Natives being able to go on the refuge and get what every they want :bdid:
We use to have some darn good hunts back in the day :IBCOOL:

I hear ya! I have never tagged out up there, granted the first few years were learning, had one shot 60 yds in front of me (a guy unknowingly made his stand below me without either of us seeing each other) and have encountered branched bulls and cows ever since. The group I hunt with has hunted that for 30+ yrs and can vouch for the truth in "the good ole' days " for that unit. a few of the stories were of elk shot on that rockslide. I have heard the same rumors of Natives in there. I have been kicking the idea of archery hunting in there this year, have came across a few spots that may be worth it.
I guess nothing good lasts!
