Title: Trout tactics for Banks Lake
Post by: DoubleJ on August 07, 2013, 07:48:34 AM
I've fished Banks plenty over the years but, never for trout.  assuming the walleye bite is as slow as is being reported, we'll need to change fish targets.  What are your best recommendations for lure/bait, speed, depth to hit some trout if need be?

Thanks.  PM's welcome

Walleye not biting?  Go after the smallies, although I've caught a couple of trout there, I don't have any tips to share as I can't even remember what they bit on other than maybe a panther martin or a worm.  At least the trout can taste good there, unlike most lakes.

I like Banks though haven't been there for a bunch of years now.

Good luck.

If you're coming from Shelton and planning to target trout, maybe try Roosevelt?  Also there are walleye there too.

We're targeting walleye almost exclusively and will only switch if we can't get them to bite.  Might go to roosevelt the last 2 days if all the fish have closed mouths on Banks but, Banks is where we're planning to stay.  Thought about smallies and perch.  We'll see.

Are you staying on the North or South end of Banks?

pop gear, followed by a 12" leader, then a wedding ring, with a worm on the tail, fish after fish... and faster is better, we noticed there the faster we went the bigger they got and hotter bite too.

Don't overlook trolling a Rapala Shadrap or baby Normans, longlined with a splitshot or 2 a few feet above your plug. You can catch any fish in the lake with that. Put some crawdad scent on too. Try trolling shallow diving plugs over the tops of the weedbeds. Theres a lot of overlooked 'eyes that hang in the weeds. Good luck!
