I have a cow tag in a 3-point or better unit, so I can shoot anything but a spike. I can't decide if I should shoot the first legal animal I can or hunt bulls for a couple days, then go for a cow. What would you do???
-
Depends on the unit, but I would be looking for a bull first. And yes anything but a spike

If your tag is for a cow then how can you shoot a bull?

The cow tag is during general season.

What has your scouting and research to date indicated your chances of seeing a bull are?

I live in the unit and know it pretty well. I see bulls all the time, translating that to a dead bull is never easy though.

Congrats on the tag.

It's not ANYTHING but a spike. What about a 2 point? Yes, they do exist. Anyway, I would most likely take the first legal elk, being that the season is only seven days. But as others have said, it all kind of depends on what your scouting tells you as well. If you believe your odds are good for a bull, then maybe hold out for a bull for the first two days, then after that shoot the first legal elk. It is a tough dilemma for sure.

:tup:think i would go along with BOBCATS line of thinking some times its much better to but meat in the freezer rather then wait for the maybe shooter to show itself
