Title: snohomish river pinks
Post by: jason stevens on August 14, 2013, 07:26:18 AM
Curious if anyone has been catching pinks on the lower river are spot opens this weekend. We have seen a few jump (not many) but last night there were seals  in the river we counted four by the boat launch at tenth street.so ready to watch my girls catch some fish before we head out for archery deer. Thanks

They should be there in catchable numbers by now. I haven't fished it yet but last week John's Sporting goods was reporting that people are catching them.

My pops is a guide and has been fishing the skagit its been hit and miss there...he only fishes upper snohomish by the confluence and 522 but that doesnt open till 16th...from another forum i hear lower snohomish has been very sporadic. Everything else Ive read says next week it should get better and will be hot end of the month!

All right all you bank maggots (I say that affectionately since I've spent my time on the bank and will do so as well).......this rain is gonna do good things. Give it a few days for the freshwater to tell the humpies to get a move on, the water to clear up, and you are gonna be bonking limits. I drove over the Snoh yesterday and the water looks good. Soon it will be flooded. Prepare to combat fish!

Anytime I got a great spot private property and the guide boats anchor out in front its pretty comical watching my girls out fish the guides and saving the 150 per person.

Of all the times I've seen the guides out on the Snohomish, I've never seen a single one of them pull fish into the boat...

You clearly aren't watching real well...Every humpy season especially my father and his co-guides have limited with 5-6 guys in a matter of 2-3 hrs. He usually does two trips a day during humpy season. So not sure what "guides" your seeing but I've always limited in his boat and watched others do so as well.

I'm not saying your pops is one of them.....but the guides I see  keep every fish they land......no matter how nasty it looks....they don't even attempt to suggest that the client might not want to keep it....just bonk it and throw it in the box  :yike: .....I'm sorry but that just isn't right......   :dunno:

Yea not all of them are the best looking fish but you also gotta wonder does the client even care? Sometimes they dont they just want to have fun and put fish in the boat. And no he is not that type of guide, if it looks like crap its going back. He usually only fishes the beggining run to the peak and then switches to silvers. He doesn't chase crappy fish thats forsure!

Went out today and landed three of the six we hooked up on. Unfortunately some crappy line was our biggest issue. Solid keepers and loooots of sea lice.

Went out last night. Landed 3 of my probably a dozen hook ups. Brother in law landed his 1 of several hook ups. It's about to kick off here soon in the river. My one buck was over seven pounds without the guts, and had two hens that were 5+. Big big big humpies.

we lost 2 at doug bar on sunday. I think the outgoing tide may be better there rather than the incoming. Lots of jumpers not a lot of takers. May fish lower on the river out of the boat friday morning. Can't believe i haven't landed my first humpy yet. what a weird year for me.

Filled three limits last night in about 3 hours. They are knockin the crap outs pink maribou jigs. Took my wife out for her first pink salmon trip and she filled her own limit. After she was done I took her back into Snohomish so she could go home. I jokingly told her that she's cleaning her fish, and much to my surprise when I got home later that evening, all four of her fish were fileted and wrapped in the fridge! She told me she watched a YouTube video and decided to give it a shot. Couldn't be more proud....

Took out a New guy tonight for some river action. He's used to fishing the sound but his boat has been out of sorts. Hooked him up with two and I pulled another limit. Still good looking fish. The derby Saturday could shape up to be a good one.

Took my real estate partner and his 9 year old daughter out today on the Snohomish for some fun. He hasn't fished in years, and she has never caught a fish. She whacked them! She caught and released them until her arms about fell off. We each kept 3 nice bright ones and let go most of them. In the end we conservatively landed 30+ Here's the father daughter showdown. It was a blast and hopefully we can get back out there later in the week.

Is anyone catching silvers at all?

I was at the " donkey hole"  or " Thomas eddy"  or " cheapskate" ( I've heard the place called all 3 so not sure what the real name is).   :chuckle:   at high tide this evening and caught  1pink and a trout  plunking sand shrimp.   Only saw 2 other fish caught.   Slow night I guess.

I've never targeted silvers and was wondering if anyone has any info they could shoot my way.

 Thanks for any info!

Been tossing a 50/50  but I'm gonna look into setting up a cork float for plunking.  Never heard of that before.

Is it still early for silvers?

Its a little early IMO for silvers. They are there, have been for a while, but we won't have any numbers for a while yet. The guys fishing out at Mukilteo just started catching consistent numbers last week. Look for the next high water at the end of September to bring in the first big push of silvers.

There are still hordes of humpies coming through the straights. My buddy that lives on the west side of Whidbey caught 25 humpies yesterday, most were dime bright. He did say that yesterday morning a huge school of silvers pushed through and he was able to catch 6 off the beach, so they are coming.

Had a good time this morning at Bob Heirman Park.  My 10 year old was slaying them.  Smiles all around (evidence attached below). Met some nice folks fishing next to us (thanks for the sand shrimp!).

Only downside was the amount of trash we found laying around the sand bar.  We were the last ones the leave the sand bar this morning.  On the walk out I picked up wads of fishing line, empty red bull cans, empty beer cans, a mostly full one liter soda bottle, a soaked copy of the fishing regs, and miscellaneous other trash. I shoved them into my backpack and threw them away in the parking lot trash can.  On the plus side, I had an opportunity to speak with my boy about personal responsibility, environmental stewardship, and leaving a place cleaner than when you found it.  On the downside, I have to answer questions from my son to the tune of "Why do people leave their trash? They should carry it out with them."  Yes Son, they should.

I saw this on the news this morning and thought it would be fun for kids but adults can fish too. Fishing for pinks using Kid Poles. I'd like to take my 4 year old daughter and her Barbie fishing pole but I know nothing about salmon fishing and found out too late. May try and make it though.

Anyways thought I'd share it for anyone interested. All procedes go to charity.
