So this is my first year hunting. I have two possible farms that I might be able to hunt (still waiting to hear back from the owners). I am wondering if anybody knows some grounds that are okay to hunt. Any open DNR logging lands or anywhere that I can park my car and hike in and hunt. I am hunting with my 30-06 and I'm pretty sure I got all the right gear, just now looking for more legal places to hunt. Any information helps...
Thanks

I don't know too many places to send you, but make sure where ever you go, you're out of the firearms restricted areas in King Co. if you're hunting with your aught-6.
-
Yeah I got the no shooting zone map of king county. Mostly just need land that is legal to be on. I'm not exactly sure what logging land I can be on and what I can't be on. That would be helpful.

Head out to 460 (snoq tree farm)...plenty of space. That's where I'm going anyway.
You'll fare better if you ride a mt. bike in. I was told by an esteemed gentleman on this board that hancock keys work at entrance gates only. Which means, if are willing to bike behind a gate within the farm, there is a chance that road hunters will not be there.

Make sure you have your non-motorized permit for the tree farm...

If you're from ravensdale, there's a nice chunk of DNR land out by selleck. Bit of an uphill hike, but nice clear cuts on top. Can't miss the blue gate. It is 454 unrestricted.

That's the Hancock area, correct?

Doesn't king county go all the way to the top of the pass on I -90? Seems like there should be tons of forest land up that way.

Do you know for sure it is legal to hunt on? Any idea if there are any maps?
-
Yes I'm 100% sure. Its DNR land. It says no shooting except as permitted per wdfw regs. Google maps satellite view will give you an idea of the area. Also king county parcel viewer to determine where the private property borders it.

I saw some deer on 1st ave in Seattle. Brown eyes and goes by the name Bambi..... Comes out of Deja Vu Showgirls.

If this is the spot I'm thinking, it's a pumpkin patch smaller than the Tiger mt area ya can't even fart in. I'd probably try up I-90 or 410. Good luck

Lol good to know. I only stumbled across it last year during elk season and cat season. Many many years ago I used to 4wheel out there.

Yes. And yes you need the $45 non moto permit.

Go up I-90 and hunt off of exit 38 or 43. Tinkham is one of the exits and the 38 is for fire training academy. There are alot of deer up there. Especially if you get out of the truck. If you are out of the restricted zone, there are no firearms restrictions. Dont go to denny creek area, unless you want to fight the yuppies. Hancock land is good, but alot of people road hunt it. So if you get the permit, go up to the spur 10 gate and park, hunt there. :twocents:

Is it the blue gate that is right off where kent-kangley turns left into 346th Avenue? It is like a bright blue gate. Can I just park right there and walk in? Throw my WDFW Parking permit up in the dash and leave? And the piece of land is huge according to the Parcel Viewer. It goes deep into the woods where there is logging and everything. Looks like a decent hunting spot.

YUP! That's the spot. You actually need a discover pass to park there. The wdfw pass that comes with your hunting/fishing license is not valid there. Keep an eye out for watershed signs, I didn't come across any while I was out and about, but you don't wanna get caught in there.

Cool man. It looks like a good spot. And I got a discover pass so I will remember that. The Watershed isn't marked by a fence? I guess I will just watch out for it. It looks like you can go all the way back to the logging areas where the trees are small. Probably a good view point to try and find some nice animals.
-
i went to the fire academy years ago an there are TONS of deer up there as well as a VERY large black bear that hang out at the campus up there and we even had a large cat on the flam pad one evening. Just before ya get to the gate into the academy there are dirt roads on both sides of the paved road that go way back in the woods. dont know if ya can hunt up there or not but might be worth looking into. i would be interested to know what you find out also as an ol student of the academy.

i wouldn't go back there. To many kids go back there wheelin and just mess it all up. Can't go back there without finding a wheeling trail. I use to hunt there also but ever since those kids got back there the deer are few and far between.
-
The kids that go back there have stopped because the sheriff has been cracking down on that. The police helicopter flies over every night. I live in the area.

Are you talking about the north side of I-90?

Yes I am.

I guess you could do early morning because the gate to the Fire Academy closes around 5pm or so.

I used to walk up that road. It was tough going. I went there two years ago and found that the road was all washed out from land slides. almost impossible to traverse now. Check it out before you commit. You only have to walk in about 50 - 75 yards to see the devastation.

Another place you may want to look into is unit 466. It's not huge, and its more of a drive(over snoqualmie, then over stampede) but I took my buddy up there last year and got him his first buck.
