Pick of the litter is the stud fee! Just saying.
-
Still looking.

Any health clearances on the dog? Any required for the bitch? Lee and Tellus put a ton of effort into their breeding programs. They study and understand pedigrees and the traits associated with specific breedings. It would be a shame to not do the same with one of their dogs.

Concern noted. I’ll gladly discuss any details with the perspective mate’s owner via PM.

Health testing isn't a private issue. When you have tests done such as the basic hips/elbows they show up on OFFA Website which is searchable by the AKC registered name.

Hips, eyes, elbows cost about the same as what people sell backyard breeding puppies for, $300. I really doubt Lee and Tellus would approve of any breeding done without proper health clearances or, lack there of in your case. Probably wouldn't want their hard earned names associated with it or being used to promote it.

Thanks again for your concern. You’ve politely told me that amateurs should leave breeding to professionals and I’ve politely told you to butt out.
But you do have a point about Lee & Tellus, although that’s public record, consider it removed.
-
Just for clarification: Tellus is the breeder. The dog was actually purchased from David Squires. He (the dog) was advertised on my website as a favor to Dave.
I was there and showed a dog I owned (Golden Ret) and Dave showed him Toby. Toby was a nice boy then and probably (from what I infer here) is still a nice boy.
As far as looking for a mate, that's always difficult when you have a male you want to breed. It pretty much rests in the hands of the bitch owners. Your best bet would be to ask (or let) folks you hunt with know that you are interested in getting a puppy from him.

Quite the contrary, It doesn't take a professional to take the dog to a vet and make sure it doesn't have hip, eye or elbow problems. Not to mention it doesn't cost much in the big picture. EIC will cost you about $70, PRA $100.
For $500 you can go from a backyard "who gives a crap about an animals health" breeder attitude to a legitimate breeder with the betterment of the breed in mind. edit: you can also call Tellus and find out if the dog might possibly be "clear by parentage" on some particular common health issues. If you care to breed healthy dogs that is- otherwise, dogs roaming neighborhoods are pretty good at finding mates???? :chuckle:

:yeah: Harsh, but true. If you really care about the breed, and the dog you want as pick of the litter you will at least get the hips, elbow, and eyes done. I had to take a bitch out of a potential breeding, because her hips did not pass. It was hard, but necessary for the future health of , not only the breed as a whole, but my dogs in particular.
I currently have a bitch I'm ready to have bred. I will not even consider a stud, regardless of pedigree, without health clearances.

Thanks Lee. I’m sorry if this post gave you any cause for concern. I have the greatest respect for you and your operation and I highly recommend WRL to anyone who will listen. I did not list WRL as involved in the breeding and in retrospect, shouldn’t have mentioned it all. Again, my apologies for doing so.

No biggie.....
Like I said, hmm......talk to your hunting buddies.....That is probably your best bet for finding someone that might be interested in working out something with you.
