Title: NW forrest pass?
Post by: Jburke on August 15, 2013, 12:34:36 PM
Is the pass required at trailheads in the Pasayten?  Or is there a different pass required?  Planning on leaving the truck parked for the week while I'm hunting.  Annual pass seems to be the better option.  Someone has to know more than me on here.

Yup pass required at ALL NF trial heads.

Think it is only required at the improved trail heads.  It has to have 3 things I think---parking lot, picnic table and outhouse.  So if any trailheads in pasyten aren't improved, you wouldn't need it at those.  The sites are usually posted with a big sign letting you know you need the pass.

Not ALL NF trail heads need the pass. Contact the local NF office for a list of trails and campgrounds requiring it. Personally I don't mind springing for the cost of the NWFP. The forest service has done an exemplary job of enhancing and creating new facilities, campgrounds and upgrading pit toilet facilities around Oregon and Wash.

I know of several PCT trailheads that don't have facilities and require the NWFP to park. You can always park just down the road from the trailhead and not have to have it.

The Forest Service has gotten into the habit of posting NWFP signs at every trailhead regardless of whether or not the pass is required by current law.

Snowpack is correct, they are only required at improved trail heads.
