I have never been coyote hunting but was thinking about doing it next spring. I have heard that you can take the pelt to a taxidermist and they will pay you for it. I've also heard about taking the nose and the ears in as well. Do people still do this or is it more of population control now.
-
Make a hat out of it :)
-
You should do a coyte backstrap BBQ :EAT:
-
I'd try and take a pic of it, then try and kill another.
Buzzards gotta eat to.
-
I was just thinking about something my Grandpa taught me. He said you should never kill anything that you wouldn't eat. Anybody have any good recipes? I'm pretty sure I have eaten dog overseas a time or two.
-
Ask BigLuke... He'll set you straight :chuckle:

Here's a link with several recipes: http://www.foremostcoyotehunting.com/2011/02/eating-coyote.html (http://www.foremostcoyotehunting.com/2011/02/eating-coyote.html)
Here's the one I like the best: Sun Baked Coyote
(I got this one from an old-time mountain man). Shoot a coyote. Let it sit in the sun for ten days. Come back, and you'll find nothing but bones and hide as others have gobbled up the meat. Then thank your lucky stars that YOU didn't have to eat it (just teasing of course, but we all have to be able to laugh at ourselves, right?).

If you wait until they are prime you can sell them or have them tanned for wall hangings or to make useful items like mittens, hats, vesst, my wife wants a throw for the house here. Tanning is about $20 each if they are skinned and dried.
-
Which Tannery are you using AWS?

Buckle up. This'll be a 12 page thread in no time.
What do I do with a coyote after I kill it? If it's between November and February, I skin it. If it's not, I do nothing with it.

:peep:

normally get a big grin on my face and try for another

I hope not. This one went 13pages. http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,126303.0/topicseen.html (http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,126303.0/topicseen.html)
If you really want to know, scan threw that ^ tread.. Some really great answers in there. Lets try and keep this one civil.
I myself only shoot them from Nov1-Feb 28, when there hide is good. Then give them to a friend that preps & sells the hides.

I don't know how I missed that thread. Wow, BigLuke really stepped into it in that thread. :o

dunno after a 180gr Accubond hits one :chuckle:
-
If its winter time and the pelt is nice I skin them and hang it on my garage. If the pelt is not nice I hang it on the nearest fence preferably facing a road to brag to my buddies.
-
Never retrieve them
-
I eat its liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti. :yike: :yike:

Moyle's in Idaho.

Crows and magpies need to eat too
-
Ya think? Yeah I just went and re-read it but I refused to post there because I dare not resuscitate it.
Anyone who thinks nothing should be "wasted" on a coyote has never skinned one and smelled one. What are they good for other than if they're prime (Dec and Jan) ? Nothing eats them other than mice and birds.

Never retrieve them

Anybody donate backstraps to Smossy yet?

I know he's eaten some raccoon. Don't think he's scored a Yote yet. Just give him the whole Yote. He could do a BBQ Yote on a rotisserie like you would do with a whole pig.
-
The difference is that raccoons taste good and there is an actual market for their meat in some parts of the country.
-
I usually just keep the tails. The rest gets donated to mother nature.
-
Make jerky & give it away as Christmas gifts. They make it out of everything else...
-
I shake it. Shake that coyote. :tung:

Not this again.

Your gramps was right, but I've justified it in my own mind because I'm killing critters that would kill something I plan to eat later.
So if you whack a yote, you might save a deer you could harvest later
