Good Evening-
I live over here on the westside.
This is my first year hunting and will be headed over to the east side. My cousin has a cabin that is about 15 minutes west of Leavenworth right off of hwy 2 and lives in Wenatchee. Not needing perfect spots or anything. Just got some questions.
Would we be better to stay in Wenatchee or out in Leavenworth?
I've been a few miles down swakane rd and saw nothin but a few magpies. We will be there sept 2-7 and am always willing to try something out.
I've also been up icicle creek rd on hwy and saw nothing clambered all around the forest and some hiking trails too. Didn't see or hear anything.
Maybe forest service roads on 97? Deeper down swakane? Drive to okanogan? Near ellensburg?
Thanks in advance.
Paul

Dad Told Me There Use To Be Quite A FewAlong The Chiwawa river :dunno:. Plan Do Poke Around There.
-
All of these general areas are of the Chiwawa River Road and FS 62.
Alder Creek and FS 6208. Big Meadow Creek and FS 6300. Chikamin Ridge and FS 6210.
Get off these main roads and you should bump into enough ruff's to have a good time.

As an Auburn native, feel like I should help you out!
As stated, you can find grouse pretty much anywhere north and east of Hwy 2 in that vicinity. Good time of year to be there, the grouse will be in the gravel roads in the morning and evening. Just drive. Derby Canyon, Eagle Creek (if the fire gets put out), Van Creek, Second Creek, Little Chumstick, all the mentioned places around Lake Wenatchee...there's grouse in all of them, you just need to put in some miles.

It's all good. There's more than enough elbow room for others chasing timber chickens too.

Last time I went up eagle creek, shot some blues and a ruffy in 5 minutes. Excellent camp feast. :IBCOOL:

Head up toward Maverick Saddle via the old road.

Since I will heading out sept 2-7 will I be able to use my 10/22? Or will it be out since it is not modern firearm season. Got my non toxic steel shells today. Almost ready to roll.

Grouse all over that area. If you are not seeing them picking up gravel in the morning and evenings look for elder berries. Won't be hard as they are everywhere over there. Get out and spend some time doing circles 40 yards around the berry bushes. Going to be tough with a .22 if they are in the bush. But, sometimes you can get them to flush and then watch where they land. If shooting a grouse out of a tree with a .22 try to line up where the tree makes a safe back drop. Going to be a lot of archers and granola crunchers out there so be careful where those bullets end up.
Not necessary to shoot nontox on grouse unless some rule has changed I don't know about. Cheap #7.5 light load target rounds should be plenty good.

Thanks for the response. I've got a Winchester 1300 12 ga for the primary weapon but if I catch one on a road at a distance I've got my little tack driver available.(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F13%2F08%2F28%2Fu4a8uja6.jpg&hash=fbbc87b7b0d51e949635523f368cfbc0c0d4b46c)

Might want to have a bear tag and a good rifle with you too! If there are some ripe berries out you just might have a chance to see Yogi!
Been a few reports of grizzly sightings there as well. Not sure if those are real griz or people that get excited about a large color phase black bear. But either way make sure you identify what bear before you pull the trigger in that area.

Lots of people travel the roads in the Chiwawa, Lake Wenatchee area best bet go high and target blues. The trails are really popular this time of the year. With the Little Wenatchee rd closed the other spots, White river, Chiwawa(lots of people heading in at Trinity) will be busy so get away from the roads and hit the ridges.

If you send me a private message I can point you in a couple directions.
