My buddy is 13 and starting to lay around a lot cause his joints are hurting. Yes I know I should have done this years ago. He is the Lab/Shep cross on the right... Any input would be appreciated... Thank you

I have an elderly lab. I have her on a daily over the counter suppliment (Joint Max triple strength) also when she gets a little too much exercise and needs relief I give her Deramaxx which from a vet prescription. I don't have to do that to often. You might consider trying the Joint Max and see how he repsonds. It'll take a little bit for it to get into his system. I can really tell the difference in my girl while she's taking it daily. Here are a couple links so you can read about Joint max.

Glucosamine? Glucose products...check with vet

Costco sells glucosamine chondrointin in their supplement section for a decent price. We cut them in quarters and feed a quarter to each of our 50 lbs Pointers. You can get the exact same thing at various pet shops for substantially more $$$ but you won't gain much.
Consult a vet however. If anything they might be able to prescribe a pain killer that is more effective depending on what's going on.

Do not buy them from the Vet!
They will charge you $30+ for a bottle of 10-15 pills, the same thing you buy for yourself for a fraction of the cost.
Our Vet told us to go to Wallmart and buy Glucosamine Chondroitin for "people" in the 500 pill bottle for just a couple bucks. We give one a day to our Border Collie.
Also, do not waste your money on all those jerky treats that claim to have Glucosimine in them. They won't do a thing to help.

Our vet put my little Sandy dog on "Naturally Preferred" frozen wafers. We have never used anything with such significant results. It's been amazing seeing her happy again. Never be the puppy she once was, but she is living a good life now. Expensive, but worth every darn penny for my wonderful little pride and joy!
