For your alcohol stove, I am thinking of making the switch but not sure how to store the alcohol.
I was thinking of one of these?

Also how much do you pack for a weekend trip? Just boiling water for 2 meals a day.

I use the older version of those, a lot goes a long ways. I use whitegas though still, not alcohol. For my 6 day trip coming up I am using one bottle and I always have lots left over.

Bmcox86, I have been using basicallly the same type bottle for alcohol fuel for years. I prefer a spigot type cap to make fueling easier.

My homemade bud bottle alcohol stove takes one ounce of fuel to boil two cups of water. For last season's high hunt, I added up the amount of water needed for the menu my daughter and I had planned. We needed 12 cups of boiled water for cocoa, coffee, and mountain house. I brought 12 oz. Of alcohol in an empty water bottle. You don't need a metal fuel bottle for alcohal. A light plastic bottle works great.

If I don't keep my 97% alcohol stored in the small plastic bottle it comes in I sometimes keep it in the HEET bottles I purchase. make sure you use the highest percentage alcohol possible otherwise you will run into issues.

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but just curious about the alcohol stove. I don't know why but I have never really looked into these things before. How do they compare to the jetboil propane stoves? Is the alcohol stove lighter weight, less expensive and boil water just as quick? If so do any of you have a stove that you would recommend? Thanks in advance for any info your willing to share.

These days I don't hunt the high country more than every couple years. Been using the same MSR bottle as shown. Same fuel I used two years ago is still good and ready this year. Don't think it gets much better than that. Not sure I have ever used a full bottle. Even in NWT where we were out for 10 days using it for breakfast, lunch and dinner plus the occasional mtn mocha during rain squalls. I've been thinking of down sizing for the 3-6 day trips to save a little weight.
Most of the time I'm using white gas instead of alcohol. Not sure why alcohol would be much different. But, others may have more knowledge than me on that.

My experience has been the same. The original Heet bottle is a great storage device.
Now when it comes to the Pendleton alcohol, I just carry it in a plastic flask.
