Title: Cherokee Lift
Post by: Ducknut97 on August 27, 2013, 01:02:46 PM: So I bought a '93 Jeep Cherokee on Sunday (I'm stoked right now) anyways it's got 31's on it but no lift so the tires rub. I'm going to purchase a lift kit soon but I would like some advice on what brand to get. And I'm havin a hard time deciding between a 3 or 4.5 inch lift. Thanks for any input :).

Post by: Alchase on August 27, 2013, 01:15:23 PM: You can run 31s with a 3in. with no rubbing if backspacing is correct. You might have to take out the wheel well liner though, can't remember.

Rusty's Offroad use to specialize in XJ lifts, I had both his 3 in lift with track bar on my MJ and his 4.5 on my XJ. Both were great lifts.

I would suggest you stay away from the add-a-leaf and blocks in any of the lifts you are looking at.
Go with a full spring pack front and back, and a new track bar.

Stay away from Pro Comp , Rough Country and Rusty's the only thing they have going for them is there price. Also check out Jeep forum.com there's an XJ section that could give you a lot of advise on the different kits out there.

If you are happy w/ 31" get the 3" and be happy save your $$ for other accessories

. Yep to do 33" tires (right) you have to address steering , brakes, gearing might as well swap out the rear end if its got a turdy 5 ( Dana 35). Unless your strictly looking for a mall crawler .

Post by: 92xj on August 28, 2013, 09:51:43 AM: The single thing you will need to address or consider is a SYE kit. 50% of 3" lifts need them and anything over 100% will. You will know real fast if you need one or not after the install. If if you have no vibes, I would recommend installing one if you plan to stay with the np case that you have. Or, just save the money for a 300,atlas or stak and dont lift it now, cut the fenders and run 31s.

For right now, if you have 31s already on it, want to keep running them and just drive the thing every day, either cut the fenders and beat the bump on the drivers side where your left foot would touch in with a hammer, or just get inch and a hald pucks for the front and a block in the rear and be done. A traction bar out back is a good thing to consider as well.

There are tons of things you can do and not do to make it work. What is your goal with this xj?

Post by: Alchase on August 28, 2013, 01:45:42 PM: 31's are just about the perfect setup for a daily driver that sees some off road. A 3in lift and some sway bar disconnects and you will be articulating as good or better then most vehicles out there. Add some lockers and sliders and you have a serious wheeling XJ.

The driving difference between a 3" with 31s and a 4.5" with 33s is night and day.

As others have said, moving up to 33s and a 4.5in or higher lift, you are getting into geometry issues with the drivetrain, SYE, longer break lines, gearing, brackets, etc...

If you are wanting to do that, then you might as well build a rock crawler with all the mods that you have to do.

Post by: Ducknut97 on September 06, 2013, 11:12:19 PM: Yeah it's my daily driver to school and i'll be using it in the hills for deer hunting this year and to tow my duck boat but being 16, I don't have a very steady flow of cash, but my parents are buying the lift as payment for roofing my house this summer.
