I currently carry a .45 XD 4". I love the fact that the mag carries 13, but it's bulky. I want something that is smaller profile that will go in the small of my back. I also want something for which I can actually find ammo.
-
My Glock 36 is pretty nice. The thinness is definitely noticeable when carrying it.
-
I have been looking too p-man. I am going to tag. I have a S&W SD9VE kinda of bulky too but can't beat the amount of rounds. I have been looking for a gun for my wife and she really like the Ruger LC9. I am partial to the new Taurus Millenium G2 they have out this year. Reading good reviews about it. http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/04/tyler-kee/gun-review-taurus-millenium-g2-9-mm/ (http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/04/tyler-kee/gun-review-taurus-millenium-g2-9-mm/). My problem is having a compact or sub fit good in my bear paw hands.
-
S&W J-frame. Small light and easy to hide. I like it more than the pocket .380's on the market. another good choice maybe the Diamond back DB9, I would do some more research on it first though. I have heard both great and bad things about them.
-
there is an ad fs for a couple of 380s debating on picking up one for the little woman to carry in her purse.
-
If you like single action / 1911 style, Sig P938 is just barely bigger than a pocket 380. If you skip the laser you can get them just a little over $500 if patient. Triggger is a little heavy but for it's intended use not a bad thing.
-
Keep 'em coming. Thanks guys.
-
I have the Springfield XDs in .45. It is a little more than $500 but its a nice weapon. Very concealable and packs a punch.
-
S&W Shield thin enough to be comfortable carrying and big enough it doesn't feel like a toy gun in your hand. I think there was one in the classifieds.

OOOO yeah ignore my DB9 recommendation. S&W Shield WAY BETTER choice.

We have a couple of J frames. They are indeed light and small.
I heard many years ago that the average self defense shooting is only 1.2 shots. I think the stat is carried lower by the fact that mere defensive display of a firearm will deescalate the situation. That said, if it does come to shooting, count on emptying all 5 rounds into the perp and needing to reload, which is painfully slow with a revolver. practice practice practice.

A recall was issued two days ago on the XDS .45. It sometimes fires twice with one trigger pull or has fired without a trigger pull. Pretty rare but there's a quarantine on all sales presently. Got this just now on the phone with Sportsmen's. :dunno:

There's also a safety alert on this piece. The safety bar can fail and the gun can fire when dropped. Wow.
-
I carry a Glock 27 and have been happy.
-
I just got a S&W Shield, .40. Outstanding carry weapon!!!!! Love it! I got mine brand new for little less than $400 at Quantico Tactical.
-
pianoman, I just bought the XDS 45 for my EDC bag. OMG, it's a nice gun. 5 rounds or buy the 7 round mag. I am impressed with it. I had the same gun you do in an XD 45 and it was too big and clunky. Sold it. I bought mine off of Gunbroker for $475 + $35 shipping and my buddies $20 transfer fee.
-
My main CCW is the PT145 Mill. Pro. Love the gun! I have several hundred round down the pipe and it has never missed a beat.

That is correct. I have had no issues with mine. I am however going to send mine in to have them fix it.

That's a nice looking gun right there. I like it.

And a nifty mag holder no matter which pistol you end up going with, check out the video on the horizontal mag holders!
http://magholder.com/about/why-horizontal/ (http://magholder.com/about/why-horizontal/)
-
You already have a single stack, so you won't get much thinner. Going to a compact single stack, would be the only way to reduce the "footprint" per se`
-
40 shield is what I carry too. Can't go wrong!
-
there was just a recall on the shields too something with the trigger just make sure it not one in the serial range that is being recalled and you'll be fine
-
I compared the shield and the M&Pc recently and decided on the c. The shield was too sloppy for my hand. The c felt better to me so that helped make my decision along with it being double stack, it also takes FS mags and I have a FS M&P. Its not ideal for a pocket carry, in cargo shorts/pants it moves too much, but works great for me at 3:00 IWB.

My EDC is a Kahr PM9. Thin, light and 7rds of 9mm.
Shoots very well for a small, light 9mm with full-power SD loads.
If I was buying new, I think I would go Sig 938.
Looks like a mini 1911 and if it shoots like the 238, a powder puff.
I owned a Colt Pony Pocketlite in .380 and it was an angry little animal.
The newer generation pistols are very nice.
I don't know why people are still recommending DS to you.....
-
I carry a Glock 27 and have been happy.
X2!
-
I carry a Glock 27 and have been happy.
G26 or G27 if 9mm is not your thing. I've carried both IWB. Even a light tee shirt is sufficient to conceal, and carry is very comfortable.

Am I the only one who carries a Keltec PF9? I love my Keltec.
Worked for Zimmerman....just sayin'
-
LOL, Kel Tec could make a "George Zimmerman Commemorative Model" I'm sure they'd have to make it stainless, so its color-neutral :chuckle:

Mine's a double stack

J-frame 637 here. airweight .38+P. i carry daily, front pocket with tight shirts and right kidney IWB with looser shirts.
i started EDCing with a Polish P64 9x18. fun little gun, but blued steel wasn't what i really wanted. kinda heavy and i wanted stainless due to the sweat issue. 9x18 is right there between the .380 & 9mm, but ammo was a little difficult to find, and that was before O got elected the first time. so she had to go!
sold that gun and got a Kahr CW40. LOVED that pistol... until i shot it! if you were further than 5 feet, i'd likely miss you entirely or hit your right side ! :yike: concealed like crazy, but had to modify my hand position to shoot it and was very uncomfortable and not instinctive. shipped her on down the river!
then got a Diamondback .380. super little .380! i never had any issues with feeding like some had, but i was shooting SD ammo, not cheap stuff. talk about concealable! i chose it over the Ruger LCP due to the extra mm's in the grip. i could get almost 2 full fingers on the grip, as opposed to the LCP that fit less than one-and-a-half. little gun had some bark, but ultimately it wasn't what always wanted (the J-Frame) so i sold it.
those thinking about the micro .380s for their ladies, i'd make them shoot those kickin' little bassturds first! :yike: they are NOT comfortable to shoot! thin, hard grip with little finger purchase... ouch! shot a clip through my buddies LCP and told him to have fun with it! I was done! my S&W barks, but the rubber, slightly more hand filling grip makes it ok. 5 rounds of +P is no slouch.
-
OK, I went and did this.
-
It's got the Crimson Trace laser on it. It's a pretty cool gun and they sold me ammo, so there's that.
-
Congrats, here's hoping you never need to use it, but if you do here's hoping you use it well. ;)
-
Thanks Fred. Thank you all for your input today. I love new guns. :)
-
Very good choice. I almost bought one for my wife on Monday.
9mm or 380 ?
-
9 mm, only because they had ammo for it. I ended up paying just a little more than RT paid me for my rifle, getting the gun, two boxes of ammo, and an Uncle Mikes holster. It's sweet.

Now you really do have a pistol in your pocket........... :chuckle:

When I decided to EDC I bought a Colt Combat Commander and a holster to carry IWB on my right back side and a Kahr PM9 with a Galco leather pocket sleve that I carry in my front right pocket in my jeans.
If I want to carry in cooler weather I have a stainless Rossi 971 - 357mag with the muzzle brake that I carry in a nylon OWB holster and I have a S&W 642 Airweight in 38 + P that I carry in a Uncle Mikes nylon pocket sleve in my pants pocket.
I also bought a nice S&W 632 revolver in 327 Fed. mag that can shoot 32 short, 32 long, 32 H&R mag and 327 Federal Magnum, nice small J frame gun with some zip. It is arecent purchace so a fewmore boxes before I start to carry it.
I bought a Bond Cowboy Defender with the 45LC/410 shotgun barrels, they havea whole array of barrels in a bunch of different calibers, 22LR, 22mag, 9mm, 10mm, 38/357mag, 44spl, 44mag, 45acp, the list goes on & on. I bought this with a nice leather holster for $350
I recently bought a Ruger SP101 in 357mag with a 2 1/4" barrel that needs some range time.
If I had only one to choose from for an every day carry handgun it would be the S&W 642Airweight hands down. It's lightweight and a pleasure to carry, so you'll carry it every day, 38 + P will take care of any metro problem you'll face. It has a little zip to it, but small conceal carry guns are made for concealable self-protection and are not made to be a pleasure shooting piece. If you want to shoot a nice decent caliber handgun that is a pleasure to shoot, carry a Ruger GP100 in 357mag with a six inch barrel. Which by the way I have one in stainless that I use for open carry. The GP100 is a cadilac of handguns.
-
I have a G23 that I carry a lot, but for what you are asking there are a whole list of compact singlestack 9's out there that are just a little easier to conceal. My KAHR is a great shooting gun in 9mm, the same piece in a .40 can be a bit snappy..
-
OK, I went and did this.
I think you'll be happy with your choice. I didn't hear about the XDs recall until today and that is what I would've recommended 1st due to similarity.
-
:yeah:

I almost bought a Kahr but wasn't happy with the lack of any safety except for the depression switch on the trigger.
-
I carry a glock 19, its smaller than your XD and it carries 15+1. However I would not carry on the small of your back. It is not a smart place to carry. If you are sitting in a chair, or on your back, or up against a wall, you cannot get to your gun. You can carry wherever you want, but I just wanted to give you a little insight.
I am partial to the glock, I know a lot of people don't like them, the grip angle or their ugly, or whatever, go F yourselves... the glock is a great gun. I went with the 19 because I can conceal it well, and I can get a full purchase on the weapon.
-
I agree. I've been carrying on my side or in my pocket. I don't like it in my back.
-
I carry a Glock 23 right now but I am looking to switch to a S&W shield soon! It's a sweet gun!
-
LOL, Kel Tec could make a "George Zimmerman Commemorative Model" I'm sure they'd have to make it stainless, so its color-neutral :chuckle:
My XD 4 in. Service .40 conceals very well with just a tee shirt.
I almost bought the two tone model, but decided on black, that way Al and Jessy could have no excuse for "implied" discrimination.
-
I love how compact this LC9 is. Really light, too.

I carried a Kahr for quite a while. I see a safety as a nuisance on a CCP that is going to be in a holster. They do have a very long trigger pull though.
-
Ruger LC9's are pretty fricking sweet. Its as thin as my cell phone... together (cell phone, and gun) are thinner than my wallet. :chuckle:
The LC9 is really light wieght as well.
-
taurus pt 145 is my daily hides nice also comes in a 9
just bought the wife a tarus 357 5 shot. also had the ruger 380 that fit anywhere

I carry an LC9 and love it. Cheap ammo and lightweight. Shoots nice for its size and weight.
I also have an LCP380 with the factory lazer for ultra concealment. But I don't care much for how it shoots. Then again I hopefully never need to shoot it.

Don`t know if you guys heard about this, but with all of the posts about the S&W Shield I thought it might be informative.

I love my sig p290 its compareable to the lc9 but a little smaller.
-
Beretta PX4 Storm 4 inch. Smaller frame and it shoots so smooth. Low recoil and carries well. Either IWB or side holster.
-
I really like the LC9. Low profile and even though it's small, no big kick like I expected. I'm quite happy with it.
-
I'd go with a Shield or a GSSF glock subcompact
-
I carried one of these for a couple years and liked it.
Considering the extras it may be in your price range

-
Taurus C140. 10 round mag. fits great in small of back. :twocents:
great price and lifetime warranty...
-
River SR40c or SR9c are both great values and easily concealable. Well under 500 dollars even after tax. Also don't forget about the number solo if you don't have a budget. Lol
