I just got 12lbs of Hi Score 700x made by du point from a estate sale I was wondering if this would be a good powder to use with steel shot or should it just be for skeet shooting? on that note I also bought a lb of LIL"gun by hodgodon and was wondering if its okay for steel shot. Thanks for any help in this.

Look under IMR reloading data shoots. It burns fairly quick and builds good pressures, I run 14-18 gr. Depending on what I am shooting. Not sure about it's use with steel.

Thanks I will check that out

700X is mainly a target shotgun powder and burns too fast for steel shot loads. It has some application in cast bullet loads in rifles and handgun loads.
Your main steel shot powders are , Blue Dot, Longshot and Steel.
Lil,gun works well in Lead loads for the 28ga and 410 shotgun plus rifle loads in the 22 Hornet and 218 Bee.
A Lyman Shotgun or Ballistic Products Advantage shotgun manuals are pretty much the bibles on shotshell reloading. If your going to get into shotshell reloading I would suggest having one around as just changing wads can change pressure enough to make your loads overloaded.

Years ago when one could still use lead, I used Hi Score exclusively in the duck blind. Cheap loads and very effective over decoys. Funny how the mention brought back fond memories.
