Are there any prohibitions on hunting coyotes and other predators in Washington with a center fire rifle or shotgun while archery deer season is ongoing? I just moved from Georgia and it is illegal to be in the woods with a modern rifle during archery season. However, I've looked through the regulations here, and it doesn't seem to say anything about this subject in particular.

Coyotes are open all year to modern rifles and shotguns in Washington. You may have to wear orange during deer season. Check with the state to be sure.

I avoid rifle coyote hunting during archery season, though I'm not a bow hunter.
It just seems a little rude to be out there, blasting away at yote-dogs with my noisy rifle while archers are trying to hunt deer or elk.

I coyote hunt and archery hunt. If I found someone out there "coyote hunting" I would think they were up to no good.
It's just a bad idea.

I hunt pheasants, grouse, ducks and coyotes during archery, muzzleloader and modern deer and elk seasons, big game and small game overlap.
I would think a coyote hunter would be less of a problem as they stay 15 min or so and move on to the next stand.
If we all stayed out of the field while big game seasons were on we couldn't hunt from mid August till the end of December.
That said, if I knew an archery hunter was in the area I would avoid it if possible. If come upon an archery hunter while I'm hunting I just silently nod my head in greeting and move on out of the area.

:)I hunt coyotes all year all seasons, first to the hunting site means first to use it. Do you fish a river with spin gear if a fly fisherman is there?

Thanks to you all for the quick replies!

I coyote hunt year round. Public land is just that, public. That being said I would try my best not to interfere with anyone elses's hunt. You have to wear hunter orange in any area that is open for modern firearm deer or elk.

Glad to hear some people have respect for Archery Hunters!! Thanks to you kinda guys, seriouosly! My opening day Archery Deer was ruined over in Roslyn because, some Grouse hunters pulled down the old road I walked in on, and started blasting grouse (before legal time)... then there was all the people just target shooting at a stump at 7am on the opposing ridge...

Agree first come first serve. I just wish all people would adhere to the common sense rule of sportsmanship. if there is a vehicle parked at the gate this time of year, and they are not target shooting close. chances are they are hunting. back away and go to another area. :twocents:
Good luck.

I disagree a lot of people out hunting grouse, rabbits, bear, bobcat, raccoon's, and coyotes. Did I miss anything? I have hunted archery for years and yes people do screw your hunts up now and then but they have just as much right to be their as he does. If I see a rig I don't hunt there, but you might even help the hunter by circling and pushing them to him. I have had many hunter jump deer in my favor. :twocents: Just get out and hunt.

:yeah: :yeah: maybe its more like archery hunters messing up my coyote hunt.... :dunno: hunting is hunting....i try not to go into an area where someone else is marching around already...mainly because it messes up the coyote hunting too...lol but we all have to the same amount of right to hunt an area....just my :twocents:

Why would it be a bad idea to hunt coyotes during archery season? Is it also bad to hunt bear with a rifle then?

Why would I be "up to no good" when I'm out hunting coyotes with a rifle during deer archery season?

Im big time into archery hunting. But, if i or anyone else want to coyote hunt during archery season and am acting respectful to archery hunters there should be know problem. And if there was a problem then it may not be the coyote hunter causing it for some other users think they own public land. Suck it up and deal with the fact it it public land and everyone is entitled to use it. I get the fact of hunts being screwed up. It happens to me all the time but you got to expect that in washington in an area that is so populated. I personally will do everything i can not to affect another hunters hunt but i sure is heck am not going to sit home and get fat because of another season going on. Ok i am done. Good hunting

+1. Nothing holds me back for hunting dogs. I will try to avoid other hunters during a big game season. Most deer hunters are happy to see ya packing out a few fawn munching coyotes.

My cousin tried his hand at Archery for the first time this year (successuflly) and asked me to give him a hand. I carried my .308 incase we saw a dog, bear, cat or whatever.
Last weekend I went scouting Deer for Modern Rifle and tried for a bear. I did pop a grouse with my rifle, and about 5-10 minutes later had a group of Doe walk by. I've yet to see deer get scared off with just 1 or 2 rifle shots.
Bottom line, I'm gonna do my thing if I'm the first one there. If someone is there first I'll do my thing somewhere else.
