Good job.

How close did you get on that speed goat?

I shot the speed goat from a ground blind over a tiny water hole. It was a 10 yard shot, no biggie. I'd been sitting on that sweat box for four days and was waiting for a nice goat but none of the ones that came in cooperated. The issue with that thing was almost all of the bleeding was internal. Initially I thought I would walk over the bluff and see a carcass but to my surprise it was right there looking at me about 500 yards away breathing heavily. My arrow fell out and penetration was good (about 12 inches or more). It went high up on the hillside into a crevice and bedded. So I did a stalk down into and missed when I tried to put a finishing touch on it from 35 yards. It ran full speed downhill into another ditch and instantly croaked. Wild.

Real fidgety creatures. They were spooked if the grass blew. However I did manage to ambush that deer. I was on the way into said blind from the car and it's about a mile walk from the parking spot. I saw him in the first couple hundred yards so I hunkered behind some sage and watched what he was going to do. He pretty much came right down the path but it took him FOREVER to get to me. Once he did get close I was well past the point of ready. Anyway that was a 25 yard liver shot just at dusk. He went 300 yards and I recovered him the following morning with a 3 minute binocular scan.

Nice work!  I am heading over to WY on the 11 of Oct to hunt Elk.  This is my 4th year over there but the only year I will not be hunting speed goat as well.  I love hunting those.
