I even had some brainiac (anchored on the edge of the channel just above lowell at low tide) in a little aluminum throw a jig into the back of my boat! I would really have liked to see if his rod got ripped right out of his hand or he just got spooled, lucky for him he didn't hook anyone! I bet he never counted on his power pro being so tough to break! ;) I caught a lot of fish on that jig before I finally lost it this morning too haha!
Fishing Thomas Eddy this morning there was a guy in a small sled that anchored up right on the edge of the channel, he looked kind of upset when sled after sled kept buzzing him. I think he finally pulled the anchor just so he could go get something to bail with.
Anyone else see anything worth telling?

Also saw folks on the Skagit up at Rockport fishing off the bridge and putting very humpy humpies into a cooler. I'm talkin big bucks with a hook nose and mushy hump. Yum. Pre digested.

I have been disgusted by all the guides who are not taking care of their client fish......they net them and put them on a STRINGER off the side of their boat! :bash: Most aren't even bleeding them! Is it really that hard to bleed/gut a fish and throw it it the fish box or ice chest with some ice to give the client a decent fish to take home? :dunno:

My wife and I were sitting over the river downtown Snohomish last night enjoying the scenery and watching the fishing action. Poor folks on the river bank and those jagged rocks! They are doing their best to catch fish...one guy on the bank cast out and immediately this hot rod in his 30k sled comes rip roaring through and cut the other guys line. I felt so bad for the bank fisherman, he seemed so frustrated! :bash:
I wouldn't feel bad. That stretch is so narrow that the boat people don't usually have much room to do anything. The folks on the bank can see and hear the boats coming up the river before the bridge so there is no reason they should cast in front of an oncoming boat. They could wait 35 seconds for you to pass and cast, but they'd rather lose a lure, and have somebody to yell at for a while.

When we are unning the river we try to split the difference between the bank fisherman and other boats if there is no way around without going thru the hole and we do it as quickly as possible.....there are times when there is no good way for those of us in boats to get past bank anglers.....or other boaters for that matter.....in those cases the bank anglers feel like we are running over the hole on purpose.....I only do it when I have no other option.
Douglas bar is a good example.....when the tide is out the bank anglers have lines strung across the entire river....this includes the only route a boat has to move up or down river....bank anglers can see and hear the boat coming yet leave their lines in the water.....then proceed to complain when a boat catches their line (I have done this yet that I know of :chuckle: ) or runs over the hole......sorry :sry: ...we really don't have a choice where we go in that area....we also can't always see your line running the width of the river.......
What I am trying to say is....it's not always how it looks.....most of us aren't out to ruin ur day or show off our boats.....but there are those people and it's not just bank fishermen that those idiots upset..... :dunno:

My experience has been and it certainly is not the case for everyone that boats are extremely inconsiderate of bank or float tube fisherman. Not all of us can afford to own boats but we do what we can to enjoy the same sport as everyone else.
I agree that a lot of people are forced to fish with less expensive options other than a boat. I was just amazed to see people float tubing in a river with so much boat traffic. I was always told to only use a float tube in a lake because in a river with a current you can be in deep doo doo if something catches your leg if you are going down the river. There are definitely slow spots on the river where I don't think the current is a problem but only having such a low profile in the river during pink season with so many boats seems like a bad idea. Not to mention actually crossing the river from one side to the other. Not me.

I float the Spokane fishing. However that stretch of the river doesn't have boat traffic. I think it goes both ways. A floater should be curteous and cautious of boats. Boaters should also know that if a particular area is known to have alot of non boating traffic to slow down and be curteous as well. Saw alot of this fishing the Snake and Clearwater for Steelies last year. Jet boats would come flying thru areas known to have lots of non motorized fisherman. Sook what your saying here is thay you ckme off plain and throw a bigger wake every time you pass a boat....potentially causing a more dangerous situation? Do you do this every time you pass a boat in the salt? It seems the people with the bigg egos on here are the ones who fish the salt......

So you are saying that since I paid $40,000 for my boat and it has a prop, I shouldn't fish the river? I love fishing for pinks with an ultra lite rig and small jigs. I'd rather do that than troll with down riggers. I don't think that is unreasonable. I always try to give the bankies a wide berth, I know their options are limited. I was a bankie for more years than I have had a boat. As far as going fast through a crowd of boats, I leave less wake when running up on plan than if I slow down, so running fast is the polite thing to do. Some people don't get it though and flip me the bird. Oh well, some day they will learn. Pinks always draw out the most clowns. People that only salmon fish every other year. I wish they would at least practice backing up their boat a few times in the off season!
Hey FC when are we going to hit the river for some fun? We haven't fished together at all this year. I think we should blaze full speed up the river and collect pink jigs in our canvas from the bankies! :chuckle: :chuckle:

However, I also had a guy weaving through boats right at the snohomish launch the other day at top speed. That could have got dangerous real fast. There is definitely a time and a place for it. I feel that most experienced boaters will know when its time to throttle down and idle through a crowd.

I sure hope that wasn't me lol. I'm usually cruising pretty good going by the Snohomish launch. It's such a zoo with people waiting to load/unload and the few clowns who anchor right at the bridge to fish. I try to get through it with haste so I'm not in anyone's way. Luckily, my 16ft john boat makes minimal wake on plane so I don't make a mess and potentially swamp the four guys in an 8 ft Livingston powered by trolling motor.

I am always careful around the Lowell and Snohomish launches. For many years I toted my 12 foot aluminum in the back of my truck, carried it down to the river, then my battery, then my 27# thrust Minn Cota, then my tackle, life jacket, net........I have had big azz fiber glass boats blast past me almost swamping me on more than one occasion. I'm always cognizant of the little guy's because that was me for many years. Yes there are a lot of rude MFer's out there, but there are also people that don't understand the physics involved with water displacement at various speeds. They also don't understand why someone with a nice boat would want to fish in the river. It's fun, that's why! :chuckle: Now get out there and catch some fish and stop complaining about things that you can't do anything about. Everyone has the same goal, to put some fish on the table. People piss me off every time I go out on the river, but I still go. Just go with the understanding that there are going to be fishtards out there. Tight lines everyone, smile and be happy that you're smarter than the average dummy.
