What is the mule deer population in the area north and west of Curlew? Dad has some property and I may hunt opening day with him. (modern rifle). Been there in the summer and seems like it sees little action. Maybe a good reason???
thanks

I have a client that lives up Rose Valley rd. and he always sees plenty of WT on their property. He sees a few mulies too.
I have hunted up there a few times and was thinking about hunting up there this year. Always a chance at a hog up there, thats what makes it fun!

Is Rose Valley Rd on the West side of Curlew Lake?
I hunt around curlew, never seen a hog, that would be a real treat. What areas are they in?

Yes. Hogs are here, but they disappear. I've had them in my yard until archery season.

There are places in unit 101 that will have more folks per square foot than a Walmart parking lot.
After the Togo fire I was on a ridge and watched a road in the bottom that had either a rig parked every quarter of a mile and the amount of vehicles it looked like a parade all just creeping along.
Had a Buddy who went with the WDFG on the crest trail while they were doing a game check and it is still crowded but you can find one now and then.

Jason, I haven't seen those bucks in a month or better.
Mudman, all the bucks are coming around in the middle of the night or staying away for fear of dying...... can't figure it out.
Winter is a different story :chuckle:

I was told even in rifle season there weren't too many hunters but I can't confirm. I go with him up there every fathers day weekend and you can count the cars that go by in three days on one hand or less.....

That's because they are stumbling over each other on Bodie Mnt.!!! :chuckle:

I'll stay away from there. I'd rather see no deer and no hunters than compete with others.....

Also don't forget the ultimate hunters in the area as well.

Go up on Vulcan Mt if you want to see some funny hunting camps and LOTS of hunters.. :chuckle:

When it's legal I have a cure for the "ultimate hunters".
25-06 Ackley....

Have hunted up the Lone Ranch Creek rd for years which is north of Curlew. Lots of road hunters but if you stay past the weekend the crowd disappears. There's some big bucks in the old Togo burn.
