I heard a bit more information about this, second hand, the other day...
Seems the archery hunter had this elk on game cam, for months. Archery hunter knew where the elk was coming down and was set up to take the shot. Archery hunter was watching the elk, waiting for the perfect shot, ready to come to full draw, when he heard BOOM and the elk dropped. Archery hunter hunkered down and watched a young man make his way to the elk. Young man got to elk and then called "dad" on his cell. Asked dad to hurry up and get up there to help him get the elk out, before he got caught.
Archery hunter called game warden and explained exactly where they were located. Game warden said, "I'm on the way!"
I also heard that the kid was given an extra charge, or a larger fine, due to the trophy size! Glad he got caught! Hope he AND his dad both get a couple books tossed at them! Being in Pend Oreille County, knowing most of the judges, (actually being on the bad side of a couple in my young past), I'd imagine neither will try something like this again!!

THat is jsut a sad thing! I really hope they get the book thrown at them! They deserve to lose hunting rights and a huge fine not to mention losing the gun and truck!

Heard the exact same thing.... Good and bad deal..

Wow :nono: That really sucks for the archery hunter that put in a ton of work just to have his would be trophy Poached right in front of him
I under stand the legal hunter will most likely get ten points, but in that situation I would rather of had the 6x6 I worked my but off for.
-
well two less poachers for now is what matters and yes sucks for the archery hunter. 10 pts dont put meat in the freezer and antlers on the wall.
-
Must be one of those field elk :bash: :bash:
-
Good 2 hear that the bad guys get caught once in a while. I hope the archer, with those extra points, draws a quality permit and shoots a huge bull next year.
-
Sort of looks like Lehigh Cement yard with the conveyor.
-
That picture is at the state shop in colville.. thats vagans crane in the background. Ill see if my old man knows anything about this. Ill be up friday and try to find out more specifics.
-
Sounds like this is his 3rd offense game related.. did something up by yochum lake earlier. Glad they caught the pos.. He shot it not three miles from my parents place!

I really doubt it... if he is he should consider never visiting the site again...
-
Guy is lucky he kept quiet and called gamey...I dunno if I woulda kept my cool seeing this tool
-
Glad they got him.
-
People like us hunters who follow the rules... get a bad rep b/c of P.O.S like this!!!!! And i can't believe the father was in on it... see the problem isn't America youths it's the parents..... it's sad... how people can encourage poaching... no respect for the sport or for the wildlife.
-
You can just about gurantee they were out to shoot elk, deer or bear
-
Unfortunately this goes on a lot ....many hunt elk with rifles during archery elk season but most never get caught ....Happy they got one
-
That's gonna hurt the wallet, hope the get the max fines and great job to the hunter that caught them. Sorry you didn't get to harvest that bull.
-
-
Bye bye rifle
and everything else thats the trophy penalty I Believe

From what I gather, second hand, he didn't actually keep quiet. After calling the game warden, the archery hunter actually approached the guy and his dad, letting them know that the warden had been called. Unless also armed with a side arm, not so sure I'd have taken that step...lol
-
Glad they got caught.
-
When I hear about this crap i wonder how anyone can sit and look at the bone of a poached animal and have any sort of appreciation. It wouldnt be hard o kill a big buck and bull every year if i didnt follow the laws (weapon restrictions, seasons, ect). Glad he was caught and i hope he dosent get off with just a fine!
-
Who was it I know a few ppl from ione?
-
Unbelievable :bash: Glad they were caught.
-
Just a thought: they should give the meat to whoever turns in the poacher as well as the points or cash. It's sad the archery hunter missed out on a such a nice bull!

The fine for a trophy animal is $6000 dollars and the judge can't reduce or change it, although he can ad other fines. The confiscation of property used in the crime is up to the officers first and then I believe the judge.

If you have facebook you must go to the wdfws page and read the comments under the picture and story of this elk. Sickening to see defense of his actions. I dont care if its family, you cannot defend his actions..
-
Glad they were caught. Father / Son ... despicable!
-
This isnt an isolated incident im sure. Hopefully the judge throws the book at him.
-
Might just be more harvested illegally there than legal. Nailem Dano..........

Which facebook page? I've LIKED 2 of their pages but not seen anything on this story yet. I've been watching though. When I search, it seems they actually have several FB pages.

Strange. I'd liked their page awhile ago and missed that article...lol. Thanks!

:chuckle: I know right, some of its comical! Says he goes to court Oct. 10th! Guy deserves everything he's got coming to him! Especially if he's a repeat offender like its been mentioned a couple times by others!
-
To bad this kind of things still happen. :dunno:
-
Wow, that family has interesting assumptions about people... Since they say we only "know half of the story" the law is obviously null and the poacher is free of any wrongdoing  . It's all pretty entertaining. The facebook drama is a whole family affair.
The archer who reported him did a service to us all and must have had an unbelievable amount of restraint after seeing that. That would be crushing.
Here's the link to the relevant WDFW Police posting (and comments) about the poaching: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=598039896920291&set=a.278085895582361.68686.220381881352763&type=1&theater (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=598039896920291&set=a.278085895582361.68686.220381881352763&type=1&theater)
By the way, these are the exact words of his wife about the incident (asterisks added): Thanks to the wonderful lying person that turned him in. Its not like you havent done this before. Anyway....dont want to talk to much s***....karma will get ya.
Since this is a respectable family site, I'm going to stop here.
-
Was quite a bull...
-
The guys wife is a genius! I never knew that per the WDFW regulations you don't count the first two points on an elk. And since that is only a 4X4 it is not a trophy elk :chuckle: Wow!!! Leaves me speechless.
Then again, if they were really smart they wouldn't be poaching, would they?
