Will Weyco allow treefarm access for the upcoming cow hunt?

Did you find anything out? I also have a tag along with my partner and I can't get an answer out of anyone. I have talked to many people regarding this and keep coming up empty.

No update on the hotline since Aug 30. Called WDFW region 5 twice. Got pawned of each time to "someone that will know about this" 's voice mail box. Left messages with my questions and call back #. But so far have received no reply... Go figure....

What date are you talking about? Modern rifle should have good access but I'm not sure if they'll open it for muzzleloading.

I got the same run around from the region 5 office also. Finally got ahold of a bio. in the area today and still do not have an answer. I am planning on hiking in. It is sad that Weyerhauser can not make up their minds whether to open to vehicle access or not. These muzzleloader hunts are damage control hunts and also benefit them. I figure the rain we have had is more than enough to drop the fire danger bs.

I think Weyerhaeuser already knows exactly what will be open and what will not be open. It just seems like they never want to let anyone know ahead of time. You never know if the gates will be open until the morning you drive down for your hunt. My guess for early muzzleloader is that no gates will be open. For next year my guess is that the St. Helens tree farm will require a permit, and I can't imagine the cost being any less than $300.

Bobcat do you think they are happy with the herd size now? After so many years of so many cow tags and no bulls for late archery have we shot out all the hoof rotted cows?

You'll never shoot out all the hoof rot elk! And Weyco wont be happy with the herd size until they are all gone. That size would be about perfect for them!

I think cow permits were reduced slightly last year, so at least the WDFW must think numbers are getting closer to where they want them. But I didn't pay any attention to it this year so I don't know if permit numbers increased, decreased, or stayed the same.

I don't know if Weyerhaeuser has any influence on permit numbers. I would hope not. I do know about 80% of the elk in that unit have hoof rot.

I could be totally off base but I have to believe weyco has BIG pull on tag allotment. Weather its threatening to do something like Vail or other circumstances I'm not sure. Just a hunch though.
Its pretty obvious someone dosent want the elk in 520.
