OK i should know this, but am now confused, im shooting a knight extreme, and having a very hard time pushing down the sabots, i thought i was not to use a lube with these, am i wrong, should i rub a little butter on the sabot before stuffing it. Im shooting Barnes and TMZ's

I believe that bore butter will destroy your accuracy, and possibly even cause bullet instability and tumbling. It also builds up in the bore and kills even more accuracy later. My opinion is that the bore should be clean and free of lubes so that the rifling will cut into the sides of the sabot. My disk extreme was really hard to load at first, but it's easier now. And a range rod really helps put em down the bore.

Just Kidding. I Too Have Had Trouble Loading Them. I Just Try To Make Them Work Because They Shoot Good For me.

After you thoroughly clean your muzzleloader run a couple patches of bore butter through it then a couple dry patches and you are good to go. Muzzleloader barrels that are cut at the end of a die's tolerance are the hardest to load but usually most accurate

Thank you guys....too compound my rookieness....i neglected to use the search on here and found plenty of info to assist my question..The gun shoots these things fairly accurately, but a busted starter and worries of deforming the bullet, kept bothering me...its clear butter is a no no, gonna get a range rod, and looks like im gonna look for some EZ Sabots. Thanks again.

I bought some of the blue EZ load sabots from knight. You have to make sure that you get a sabot that's made for a boat tail bullet. The problem is that they loaded too easy. I was actually having the sabot fly through my paper target at 30 yards! When hunting I'm going to keep one in a speedloader for a follow up shot, as they go down real fast and easy, and don't require a range rod.
My first shot will be loaded with a harvester crush rib sabot (and a range rod). I've been getting really good 'first shot' accuracy with them.

mmp sabots web site has a bunch of different sizes. You might be able to find one that isnt such a tight fit.

Clean up the entire gun ( barrel portion ) by soaking it in hot water with dish soap. Put it in your bathtub, let it soak for a hour or so. Take it out and clean all the gunk off and dry it extremely well all over, in and out. Then try loading it and see if that is better. It helped mine.

i too have lubed up sabots with bore butter on occasion to make them easier to load, and have noticed no improvement or drop in accuracy myself. i'm sure the perceived problem of the stuff building up doesn't apply to me, since i run a patch down the barrel between shots, and clean my gun thoroughly after every shooting session.
the whole idea of "seasoning" your barrel with the stuff is a bunch of superstitious BS if you ask me, though.

move on. If you have a hard time loading sabots but get great accuracy, suck it up and use it, otherwise, change sabots until you find accuracy/easy of loading.

Went to the range today and used the harvester crush rib sabots for boat-tail bullet with Barnes 290 TMZs. They loaded just right. Not too hard, not too easy. I also fired a couple of the blue (MMP) sabots. Had one fly through the bullseye of the target at 50 yards. they really fly!
