Title: Steptoe 139 muzzy
Post by: janttihunter on September 20, 2013, 06:27:13 PM: Can anyone help me out with some info on this hunt? I have some private land options and swing deer is just as important as harvesting one to me. I live on the west side and was wondering if it was worth the drive? And if anyone had recommendations on what part of the unit to try. Not exact locations but just some ideas.

I'd do a little scouting over there, maybe find some Written Permission signs. Give that landowner a call (most likely have to pay him $20-40 to use his land) he will mail you written permission and then you go and harvest a deer.

They're all over, just bring good glass, spot and stalk is how it goes down there. I went to school at WSU so I know there are deer up in there, but also lots of yotes too

I probably would have been trying to make some contacts over there a little sooner than one week before season opens though.

Not necessarily true. Our property is in the Hunting by Written Permission program and we don't get a dime. Haven't since 2006 or 2007.

I honestly just want a break from the jungles of the west side. It's my second year hunting WA. I ate tag soup last year, scouted my butt off this offseason, been hunting my butt off so far. Just figured I would take a 3 day weekend and explore-hunt the eastside some. Still working on my first deer here. Thanks for the help guys!

Bucks were everywhere and ruttin like crazy during the late muzzy season. One of the best spots I found was a few hundred acre state piece right next to the hwy just on the n. edge of town.

Kind of depends on the property, but yes there are deer in that area. Don't be afraid to sit and let the deer come to you.
