Title: Ritzville info
Post by: LittleHunter on September 23, 2013, 12:52:19 AM
This season is going in the hole and opening day is closing in quick. Starting off losing all the property I had acess to hunt by people leasing the land or someone driving through a new planted field.

I have been deer hunting Washington since I was ten years old with family and friends and have been fortunate to harvest some respectable whitey bucks but never a trophy but not fortunate to ever harvest a muley. This year I will going solo do to friends moving away or just don't hunt anymore and after five years of having tag soup trying to target a muley. Just bad luck a guess.

Do to budget cuts at work and bills piling up, kids medicale bills and school expences I havent really had to much time to go out and scout as much as I would like and the trips I was able to take coming up with no excess on land or just not seeing any deer in the area. But a talked to a guy on my last scouting trip at the gas station. He was telling me to take a look up around Lind and Ritzville area if I was going for a muley.

From the guys that know that area or have hunted that area. Have you had any success or been seeing any bucks. Any info would help and be muchly appreciated. I have don't a little research and have found some feel free to hunt land but notice the majority is private. Is the feel free to hunt land any good or dose it get get hit pretty hard with hunters. Are the farmers hunter friendly or is it really tuff to get on some land.

Hunted the ritzville area for 25 years.  In the last 3 or so years all of the places I loved to hunt have went to leased land for hunting.  Very few if any public hunting anymore around Washtucna and Ritzville.  Great area but no access.

you have to take time to knock on doors asking for permission.  wear clean jeans and a seahawks t shirt with a mariners ball cap.  drive slow in their driveway.  I always ask if they want the heart and liver.  2 years ago I gave a farmer a pickup load of wood with cedar kindling. mike w

another tip is to attend happy hour at the local watering hole.  ask good questions but not too many about where the big bucks hang out, who gives permission, who doesn't, etc.  if there are not too many people in the place buy the house a round.  etc    mike w

I don't have a Seahawks jersey or a mariners hat but I have a john deer shirt and some faded carhatt jeans  and a peterbuilt belt buckle and a cowboy hat. Would that work or is that over doing it? Thanks for the info and ideas. Hope to make a drive up there this weekend and do some scouting and door knocking. Hope it goes well. Maybe I take some smoked salmon my buddy just loaded me up with a bunch.

that might be overdone.  drop the hat.  few of the farmers are cowboys anymore.  another idea would be to bring them a hat cuz one size fits all.  most of them luv hot sauce.  mike w

I live in Ritzville and the part about the access is true. Although there is some feel free to hunt areas that have deer. Crab creek has quite a bit of BLM just north of Ritzville. These bucks were on state ground just outside of Ritzville. If you guys need any help packing one out this weekend let me know. Goodluck

I've hunted this area a good portion of my life but I always have much better luck when I travel north a about 40 mile to hatington davemport area.  Almost all of it is farm land but most farmers will gladdly let you hunt on their land and let you know which areas are best.

Best of luck

Took a drive up there this last Sunday with my brother and seen a lot of deer in the area. Quite a few bucks to. A few really nice ones. Hope the muzzy hunters leave a few of them around there for me to chase around.
