Title: Remington R-15 or R-25. Are they showing up anywhere? Has anyone seen one?
Post by: KimberRich on September 25, 2013, 08:37:24 AM
Ive been looking for a new R-15 or R-25 and haven't seen one on a shelf in almost a year.
I wasnt seeing them even before things got crazy.
Did they cut back production or did something change I dont know about?

Has anyone seen one and where?

I called Federal Way Discount and they said they can order me one for $1089 which is fine... but they said they can't guarantee they'll get it in the next 8-10 months.
I realize there are a few on Gunbroker and other sites but the selection there is even very limited compared to other AR-15 platforms.
Thanks

I finally got a hold of someone there today and they don't have any.
Per the guy in the gun area...
They've only had 2 ea. R-25's in the last 10 months and they both were used and there on consignment.
They haven't received a new R-15 or R-25 in over a year.

Does it have to be a Remington R-15/25?

You could probably buy or build a very similar, superior AR rifle for the same or less cost.

Thats a fair question.
You can ask this question about everything you buy... Does it have to be a Chevy when Dodge makes a comparable truck for similar money?... etc.

I just like the Remingtons. I like the look and finish and configurations they come in.
So in this case, yes, it needs to be a Remington.
Prices on AR parts have come down but I still think it would be hard to build a comparable rifle for the same money but I am no AR expert.

keep looking, my R15, 22inch,  is more accurate at a hundred yrds than both of my custom rifles, shooting factory hornady 53gr, most accurate rifle i have ever owned at the hundred yard line.

The camo on the Remingtons looks good to me, but if you don't mind basic black, the R-15 is a Bushmaster and the R-25 is a DPMS.  All three companies are owned by Freedom Group.  http://www.freedom-group.com/ (http://www.freedom-group.com/)

After looking around locally for an R-25 and seeing the prices where they were bringing on Gunbroker, I bought a DPMS Lite Hunter in 338 Federal for about $250 less.  .308s seem to be about the same.

A R25 in .308 came up at Sportsmans Warehouse in Silverdale last week for $1329 but I'm looking for a .243.  A buddy of mine went down and bought it though.
I've looked at many brands and owned a few and have come to the conclusion that tje Remington is what I want and best suits my needs.
I really want the 18" barrel and adjustable stock model.

given, that your willing to pay 1500 including tax, and a few or more hundred more for scope, rings, riser, and bipod, extra mags etc.....ya really might want to look at the one in the classified here....

if accuracy and noise are important to you, ya might want to reconsider the 18 inch, jmho...

I'm definitely not willing to pay $1500 for a used one when they're $1089 new.
I've got scopes and rings and mags and ammo already.
Im pretty sure I was the first person to PM the guy with the one in the classifieds. Its a nice gun and probably well worth what he is asking but I'm not interested in the extras and at this time he doesn't want to sell the rifle without them.

I'm definitely looking to buy one but I more or less started the thread to just see if anyone has been seeing them or had any info as to why they just seem to not being showing up in stores.
Bushmasters and DPMS' are everywhere...
So why are the Remingtons so scarce?

I've got a 14" 243 Savage Striker.  Loud.  Lotsa flame with factory ammo.  Also very accurate.   Faster burning powders make a big difference but not sure you can mess around too much on a semi-auto and still have the correct volume of gas to run it.

Sounds like you know exactly what you want, but even with an 18" barrel it is still a big heavy gun.  Not sure 2" will make a big difference in handling but it will make a difference in muzzle blast and velocity.

A 20" or 22" barrel would be fine but... to my knowledge they don't offer the adjustable stock with any barrel lengths besides 18".
I've also read some and looked at a bunch of reviews on the 18" vs 20"/22" and have yet to find any complaints about accuracy or noise but I am a rookie to this AR stuff so these hints and ideas are appreciated.

You won't have any issues with an 18" barrel. Its a great option and start looking at what different 3-gun competitors are using and you will find a vast majority using 18" ARs.

I've seen a few R-25s in 308 in stores lately.  But no R15s.
I travel a fair amount and look in every sport shop I can ..
a buddy of mine claimed to have seen one in a sports shop in Billings over Thanksgiving

I don't doubt it, it was likely ordered long before December of last year.
