I have hunted blacktails a long time but I have never tried to call them in. I just got two calls today, both made by Primos. The first call is the "power buck & doe grunt & bleat call" the other is " the can" estrus bleat. Like I said I have never tried to call them so any advice you guys have would be great. I have the rest of the season off and late buck and I was thinking this might be a good trick to learn. Also have any of you guys had any success calling them?
Thanks in advance. Justin

Good. I have had huge success calling blacktails usually with my hands cupped together saying "HHHHHEEEEEEEAAAAR Blllllllaaaackkkkktail"
-
 Thats about what I would expect from you :chuckle:

One time I had one of those bite & blow calls with the rubber band inside and saw a doe about 200 yards away from me, I blew the damn thing softly and she turned and came right at me focused on me the whole way! :bash: I am a trad archer :archer: and couldn't move a muscle. When I tried to shoot she EXPLODED as soon as I tried to draw. They might work if you are in a blind or up a tree.

ive tried calling them in a couple years ago. nothing ever came in. i have heard a buck snort and i called back and never got a responce. ive also tried with muledeer with the same results.

This may sound weird, and some of you may have had a similar experience. I've called in mule deer (both does and bucks) with a rabbit distress to well within bow range. Unfortunately, I was coyote hunting at the time.

I have also!! Even called in two big bull moose with rabbit distress.
-
Ive grunted one in that was cool

Wow! I didn't have the balls to actually try it during deer season. Maybe I should.

Heck, I am going to try it this Friday to see what happens...
-
Well I got me some rattlin sticks, and gonna give it a try in the morning. I have a ridge I am going to glass for the first couple of hours then into the timber a little to try the rattlin See if the bucks are even close to ruttin.
-
If there are a lot of mature bucks around an area rattling works great. Do not tickle the horns, crack them good for about thirty seconds then be ready. If a big buck is around he will not waste any time coming in. Wait fifteen minutes and rattle for thirty more seconds. Remember only works if you are in a area that hold mature bucks that fight. Do not move for fifteen or twenty minutes, my own inpatients has cost me a couple of nice Blacktails.

I've always had luck with a rattle bag and not much luck with anything else when it comes to Blacktails. Calls work really well with whitetails.
