set up a cam on the back side of newman lake, and the first thing on the cam after 4 days is a 3 to 4 year old cow, wasn't ex specting that at all !I was thinking about changing my late bow plans for 49 area ? anybody know if they are out there a lot or was this something that followed me back from rimrock ? :bash: :bash: :chuckle: :chuckle:

If you saw one. I guarantee there is at least one elk :chuckle:
-
Ive seen elk a few of times on property pretty close to the lake. Mostly cows and a few small bulls especially early in the season but Ive thought the same thing about hunting in late archery. They seem to be pretty sporatic but findable.
-
Now that 50,000 others know there are elk there, you might want to change your plans. :chuckle:
-
Elk are easy to find you just got to go where their at.
We saw some going south on 27 towards Oaksdale the other day.
Also a couple of moose are hanging out down that way.
-
Usually come late elk most of those elk get pressured into the fields next to Trent and pleasant view. Some stay on the private ground but I almost guarantee there will be 30-50 elk in those fields in the next 3 weeks. Might be worth checking out though come the season.

I'm sure it followed you back from Rimrock..... No elk there I'm sure.

I gave up my trophy at temps after 10 days of early season,on a bull tag in 364 now I'm just hungry , I think if she keeps showing up ill do the same, I think she will fit the menu just fine !!!! :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:I'm on private land so ill be by myself, geeeeze !!,at least I hope !

any elk in that area !looks like he will fit the bill just fine!thanks for the incentive jolt, wile were at it anybody got any input on late season bow tactics ?iv heard that a lost calf call could be usefull ? 8) 8) 8)
-
Honestly, they get enough pressure that for the most part, unless you are awesome at calling, it will send them the other direction. Runway ambush is probably the best. Spot and stalk for the most part isn't an option unless you happen to be in the few spots you can see.
-
been two weeks and the cow hasn't been back, what do you think about plots on elk iv heard they will us ally catch a scent on them, but out there not really to many options like you say.man there is some thick stuff in there.i think I will be siting on this plot for a while ,had a good 4 point buck come in ,my buddy got a rifle tag were going to use the bow on that guns are for girls !!!! :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I've seen bulls running in the fields SW of Colfax more times than I can count. I had a spike about run me over while hunting Muleys in the Snake River Canyon. They can be anywhere really.

:yeah: Whats that old saying...."They are where you find them."
