There were some great bucks taken out of the Central Cascade Wilderness areas. Icicle Outfitters & Guides drop camps took 22 bucks; the largest rough scored in the mid-180s.
-
Awsome buck
-
1 of the 22? Thread title says big BUCKS. Lets see the rest.
-
22 bucks- 1- 4 point and 21 spikes

Well that one sure is awesome

Is it just the blur that makes that pic look old and dated ?
-
That buck has it all. Wow heckuva critter.
-
Dandy buck, no wonder the high hunt is getting more popular each year.

:yeah:
-
 Really nice buck, Congrats!
-
Not too shabby for a fisherman from Florida. Great buck!

My guess is it's a picture of a picture.
Awesome buck.

spike 3 points.
I think someone on here has the best rule about the high hunt............don't talk about the high hunt :chuckle:
-
I think Jackelope nailed it pic of a pic.
Beautiful buck for sure.
I think there was someone that had posted success photos from the high hunt and followed it up with, lots of work, over 10 years of hunting....2nd deer in that ten years.
It's not just the work to get in there to hunt it is the work that goes into all of the scouting to know where they are once the hunt starts.
Hats off to the guys that put in the work and are successful.
-
Jim Dandy of a buck right there. Congrats to the hunter!
-
That sure is a nice heavy buck!
-
Jackelope, Yep, it is a picture of a picture sent to us in a format that we could not convert so we snapped a photo with our camera. Here are some of the other decent bucks taken by our drop camp clients.
-
Let's see some other High Hunt bucks. Here is another from our camps.
-
Several camps tagged out with some good venison.

holy long arm batman!
-
How many people packed in?
-
Well done! You guys know where to put them hunters! Those are some dang fine bucks!
-
May I ask what the success:client ratio was?
-
Haugenna asked "how many people packed in"?
We packed 19 camps with 61 hunters. Those camps were scattered through 3 wilderness areas from the Kittitas County line to the south shore of Lake Chelan.
We definitely were not the only guys; there were some who used private horses and mules to go in and many backpacked. Our clients probably represented about 20% of the total hunters. Plenty of room for everybody; solitude is one of the reasons to hunt the high hunt but the October pack in hunts are even more free of people.

LOL! That is a laughable comment. Overselling it a bit? Every year the parking lot around the major trail heads are packed.
I will say that there are areas off the trail that can give you solitude. I assure you, horses or mules are not going in that route.

It's pretty hard to oversell Icicle Outfitters. I've worked as a hunting guide in British Columbia, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, and personally hunted in Colorado, Utah, California, and Washington as well. I haven't seen very many places or outfitters who produce the type of success they do year after year, especially considering they are hunting the People's Republic of Washington. Good work Muleracks.

So you are comparing success ratio and quality of animals in states like Idaho, Montana, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming are nothing compared to Icicle and Washington???? :dunno:
What rock have I been under the last decade?
My comment regarding "overselling it a bit" was referring to the crowds on the high hunt.
-
I'm not talking average trophy quality I'm talking basic success. Try packing 61 hunters into the backcountry in Washington yourself and have them do as well as Icicle's did. Then come talk to me. I'm not saying it's the best in the world but it's right up there with anybody's stats.
-
Obviously Haugenna has something against Icicle... oh well :dunno:
Nice going Muleracks congrats on another successful year
-
i dont think it was about the animals, more the comment about solitude being spoken of, hence he mentions how crowded TH lots are
-
The lots could be twice as full as they are and still wouldn't see anyone while actually hunting, hiking/sight seeing maybe. Lots of territory.
-

My comments were directed toward the "oversell" statement. I don't disagree there are quite a few people in the wilderness during high hunt.
-
The High Hunt is pretty popular and if you just hike in 5 miles or hang around the trailhead, it is going to feel crowded.

We camped in between your two camps where that pic of the two by three was taken. Saw that buck being packed back to camp. My buddy and I tagged out in the same area opening morning. Even with the number of people hunting we never saw anybody else while hunting except on the main trail. Big country with lots of room for everyone. The guys whining about the crowds need to work a little harder at getting a little further back. We talked to the guys at the lower camp a couple times, seemed like a great group of guys and they seemed very happy with you, the camp, and the hunting. You guys seem to run a top notch outfit and if I didn't have my own horses id hire you for sure. Here is a pic of my friends deer.(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F13%2F10%2F06%2Fve3eda5e.jpg&hash=416d9da635c135deaecd2301dc6c9c027962ebdb)

That's a nice buck too.
-
Congratulations and thanks for posting that great buck.
We do our best to keep our camps as isolated as possible and well away from each other.
The ALW is always a favorite but we put clients in the HMJ and GP Wilderness areas as well. Glad your spot worked for you and that our guys didn't disrupt your hunt.
-
nice

Man, this thread is really bumming me out. Looks and sounds like everyone shoots and deer up there and half of them are monsters! A college buddy and I have been doing this hunt for three years now and we've only managed to see two freakin' deer, total. I know we've done plenty wrong but damn talk about opposite ends of the spectrum.
-
We had people go home with a tag in their pocket too; 61 hunters with 22 bucks. Most of them passed up legal bucks in hopes of tagging something really special.
For most hunters, success is more about the experience of being there rather than tagging a buck. I'm sure that is what keeps you going back even though you have not been pulling the trigger.
Here are some guys that went home to hunt another day; Oct. 12-20.
-
Good looking bucks guys
-
There is no need for anyone to have to defend Icicle Outfitters as they are a top notch outfit. I know Dale personally and he is an up front legit guy. I would back up their outfit any day. A lot of the guys that hire them don't want their photos spread all over the internet which is certainly their choice. For someone to go off questioning their success and clients satisfaction is just a matter of jealousy. Many of their hunters chose where to go so its not a matter of them putting a camp on someone else's. Many are repeat clients that hunt the same area for many years. They do a lot of trail work and trail work support of which we (at least those who get away from the roads) should send them a word of thanks. :twocents:

:yeah:
-
just a thought, would the high hunt be a place to impose a 4x4 rule. I have done the high hunt and passed up many 3's. mike w
-
The 4 point rule wouldn't hurt the harvest rate much. Might worry about the big rack that doesn't have the points; pretty easy to mess up a hunt that way. Like Mike's archery buck (photo); nice rack but only a 3x3.
-
WOW!
