I'm no dog expert but this is a large coyote, correct? Taken on the Olympic Peninsula miles and miles from the nearest residence.

looks like it but perspective is everything. COuld be the photo making it look big but the belly looks low and well fed.
-
Yes it looks like a very cubby coyote. wolves have a larger snout and are longer bodied.

on the Olympic peninsula i highly doubt there are wolves, unless released or very mistaken, i have never heard of any.

Correct. Long skinny nose. I bet it's a big male.

Thanks Guys! I rarely see coyotes over there and the ones I have seen were mangy little things.
BTW, it was inside the Olympic National Park.

coyotes are everywhere on the west side, they just hide in our thick brush to well

Spent some time watching one at a distance that was bigger and "wolfier" looking than that one on the OP a few weeks back... It really made me wonder, but I'm not an expert by any means and I kept telling myself it must not be. I wish I had a pic, because I've been running it through my mind ever since.
It had the really full looking (not pointy) snout and bushy white/grey coat that was very thick. I'm also probably too accustomed to seeing the scrawny wetside dogs we have, so maybe I just found one healthy one. :dunno:

All I know is it sure looks like it's well fed.

Looks like Ted the cougar needs to pay it a visit!

NOT a wolf , legs are to short , Looks like a Possible coydog to me , Hard to tell by THAT picture, Coloring and markings look like coyote , Not necessarily a male either , I have called in and killed many BIG females over the years .
