Everybody always want to know the best place to go on opening weekend. Well how about we switch it up a bit and see where you wouldn't want to be hunting tomorrow morning because of all the people.
If had to chose id say Twisp. It crazy the amount of people that pile into that town.
-
i would say vail or hancock, i have a pass and the only reason i am going out this weekend is because it my daughters first year  good luck all!!!!!

Yeah it's a zoo and it's the worst when you're behind someone road hunting and all you want to do is get up the road three miles :chuckle:
Crazy how much it cools off late in the season though. I was up there with my Dad last year while he was hunting and there was hardly anyone hunting / camping in some prime areas. Even with the youth and senior hunts.
-
I would say any of the units close to Eburg like Manastash, Umtanum etc will be bad. I made the mistake of going up there a few years ago opening weekend with my old man just to get out and there was a truck at every single bend in the road.
-
Any rifle GMU with a road system. Duh :IBCOOL:
-
*Emergency Notice* all rifle hunters please vacate the following units due to unkown outbreak-umtanum, manastash, lil naches! that will be all, thank you. :dunno: :chuckle:
-
Capitol Forest is probably not one of the top desired units to be opening day. But it's 5 min from the house and I have a doe permit so i'm going. Will be my sons first time out hunting with me.
-
Sumas Mountain
Uh Oh,, :bash: was thinking about going there myself.

My buddy heard the samething about the puyallup and mashel units also. Weird must be true if more then one preson heard about it. :chuckle:

Capitol forest will be littered with trucks driving and sitting on every clear cut.

Great hopefully they will be heading where I'm not. :chuckle:
-
Downtown Seattle (though that area used to be good hunting). Downtown Issaquah is better.
-
I'd say Snake River any where from the Oregon border to the mouth of the Columbia. Please stay away, it's for your own good.
-
Wherever I am.
-
I must have been in the wrong part of gmu 101. Years would go by between sightings of a hunter in the woods.
Very few drove by the camp.
I bagged a deer most years.
-
Most anywhere on the mainland.... ;)
Five minutes and counting, but it's too dark to see anything in my driveway yet. :chuckle:
-
The whole darn state is a pumpkin patch! Archery for me, cant stand orange! Good luck to all modern guys.
-
I second late Archery, my trail cams show that the big bucks are noctural now. Going to try my 1st Washington hunt this November. Going for Elk in Utah next weekend!
-
Sumas Mountain
Uh Oh,, :bash: was thinking about going there myself.
I know a guy who road hunts Sumas mountain whose color blind. No joke! His wife won't let him hunt alone so he has someone to point out the orange for him. Beware of the blue Chevy suburban.
-
Packwood and Cinebar / Vail area.
It looked like a traffic jam with trucks and trailers last night!
-
Okay update. The observatory rd is the worst place. Damn near 50 rigs. Someone got a nice buck though.
What? A nice buck was taken?? O.K. I'm on my way!!

I didn't go up there this morning,, went someplace else. I passed a few hunters/trucks, but not as many as I woulda thought. Funny thing,, when I was coming off the mountain to drop off the cowbell I brought with me, I passed a convoy of shiny Honda cars heading up the mountain,, nine in a line heading up there. Wonder what they were up to?

Yeah, I was there sort of. I camped on Umptanum Ridge in a brush pile so I could be out there in them at daybreak and the push began. I love to hunt the desert and when I've had success that's what I do, cold camp, but it has become a circus at least numbers wise. I think the number of hunters and the number of deer I saw were about equal, 30 plus, no legal bucks other than the one that some fellas on horseback shot one canyon over from where I was-I was headed for that spot and they got there about 15 minutes before I would have crossed over and dropped into that spot. I could see the Observatory Road parking lot from where I was, pretty amazing.
-
ellensburg area was horrible. The reecer creek was over loaded. no wonder the success rate in this area is under 8%
-
Was in an area that was normally void of other hunters until this year and could usually always count on success. HOLY CRAP yesterday it looked like the whole area was full of moving pumpkins wasn't hunting more than a 100 acre area and saw 12 other hunters by noon, walking in pairs and just talking away as they moved along the deer trails, heard one pair of hunters better than 500 yards away as they were moving into the area. If you hunt like this do everyone else a favor and stay the hell home, because you sure as hell don't know how to hunt

I have watched the mile long line of rigs headed into the woods opening morning on Reccer, how can anyone enjoy hunting like that?

Worst places to deer hunt this weekend
anywhere in the middle of a pumpkin patch
I watched a dandy 4 point buck escape a pumpkin patch in the Taneum many years ago. I heard a massive amount of shooting going on so I crested the hill to see what the commotion was all about on the other side. In the middle of the ravine was a nice 4 point slowly moving to the rim. Surrounding him was about one dozen hunters with buck fever. I don't know how many shots were fired at the buck but everyone seemed to empty their rifles more than twice. When the buck was cresting the hill, I assumed everyone was out of ammo because he passed only a few yards from several hunters and none of the fired a shot at that time. Everyone was under 200 yards from this nice buck too. I was probably no more than 250 yards and though I wanted to shoot it (and I knew I could hit it) I figured if I did, there would be 3 or more tags punched by the time I could get to it so I held back and just watched.
Funny thing is - not one of the hunters that shot at it followed it to see if there was a blood trail. They all went in opposite directions of the buck. I crossed over and followed the tracks for a few hundred yards and figured it had not been hit.
All told - I guessed well-over 100 shots were fired at the buck. It was his day to live.
-
Worst place to hunt is on your couch. Get out and get 'er done.
-
Yacolt Burn. The last time I hunted there is was like a freeway trying to get in there. I was overlooking a clear cut once, and one guy pulled in above me another to my 9 O'clock and another to my 7. one of them about got a 7mm bullet in their minivan radiator! If you see someone on a clear cut move to the next one!
